Take on drinks Pacific Sun

Hello All

I have never sailed on P&O and was wondering if you can take soft drink cans on board?? Pacific Sun Fremantle departure. I believe alcohol is a no no on P&O. Is this correct?

We sailed on Princess from Fremantle last year and took on board soft drinks and a carton of beer. We just bag tagged them and parked them next to our cases. They were in our cabin before we were!

Hi Rosie, yes you can take soft drink, bottled water etc on P&O ships but as you said, no alcohol.

The only thing is that Pacific Sun does not have fridges in the cabins (except Suites). But you can ask your cabin steward for an ice bucket and ice at any time.

I suggest that you take your drinks on board as carry-on as they are not very gentle with the checked luggage. You can fit one of those 24 can packs into one of those green shopping bags which makes them very easy to carry.

We took a carton of coke and a small 6 can esky, the cabin steward filled it with ice twice a day after we asked for ice once! We just replaced the cold can we took with a warm one, worked a treat :)

How do you know they had rum runners? The notes on the door just ask you to report they do not say what they found because until they inspect it with you present they can not say what it is.

1 it was writen on the card on the door in big letters alcohol.

2. We did meet the people who got the note as well and they told us.

3. I should have taken a photo just for but I didnt think that would the right thing to do.

4. Have you been court with alcohol in your luggage?

Love Thied.

No Thied I have never been caught with alcohol in my bag. I have just seen signs on doors different to what you say you have seen.

I am interested in when you took your beer last year, did they not say anything? or did they allow alcohol to be taken on board back then?

you obviously didn't try and hide it?

Hi, the OP said they brought beer with them on a Princess ship. Princess have different rules to that of P&O.

So are you allowed to take alcohol onto a Princess ship?

Yes we had one of the fabric style rolling eskies. We put a 30 can block of beer in it and parked it next to our cases. I printed out baggage tags and attatched them to it. We also did the same with 2x 24pk of cool drink cans.

In Phuket we carried on board a 24 can carton of local beer- just in the back pack.

This was Princess cruises not P&O.

PS please ignore my failed attempt to attach countdown clock below!

We have taken alcohol, for consumption on our balcony, health reasons you understand :) , at each port. No problems. But that was on Princess and HAL., not P & O.

Now we have a forthcoming P & O Aus cruise. At first it was an unpleasant surprise to find I will not be able to take my bubbly and DH cannot take his Scotch. From reading the many posts on CC, no alcohol, none, zero, can be taken on P & O Aus ships at any port. Don't like it, but will abide. We'll still have a great cruise.

Question: Is this rule to stop unpleasant behaviour i.e drunken yobbos ?

I was wondering about the scanning of suitcases and P & O's "dealing with smuggled alcohol process". It seems suitcases are scanned, then a note put on the cabin door ? Then the owner of the case goes to somewhere on the ship and the case is opened by the owner in the presence of staff ?

A bit "Border Security " like.

I'm guessing it would be handled in a professional, civilised, way as it could be innocent i.e person could be used to taking alcohol on other cruises.

Is there any one out there willing to share their P& O alcohol experience?

Ann

Hi Ann,

We have taken alcohol on all our P&O cruises as have many many others we have spoken to and never had a problem. Of all our cruises I have not spoken to anyone who had been called to naughty room. I know that it does happen, so am guessing they have just had bottles, which would show up. On our NYE cruise we were talking to couple and they had 4 suit cases and just had bottles in there (we are a bit more discreet :D) and one(only) of their suitcases was sent to naughty room, other 3 fine, they were given it back to them on the last night. If you have any queries, let me know and I can give you my email address. Fiona :)

Hi Ann,

We cruised on Pacific Dawn last year and my husband had packed a bottle of scotch in his suitcase. My case was delivered to the cabin but his was not. After many hours and several phone calls, he was escorted down to reception by our cabin steward and his case was there (along with a dozen others) with a big alcohol sign on it.

He was asked to open it in front of everyone (not in a private area) and the bottle was taken. The whole process was very embarassing, especially in front of other pax and our steward. We did not mind losing the scotch until the end of the cruise, for he did break the rules, but P&O could have handled it better. We have always cruised Princess, Cunard and P&O UK before and have never had a problem bringing alcohol onboard (for consumption in our cabin and on the balcony).

Our bar bill on each cruise is pretty generous, as we buy a bottle of wine each night at dinner, so it is not just to save money, but P&O Aus don't allow you to buy bottles onboard to have in your cabin, even buying a bottle of wine at the bar to take back was a problem.

Needless to say we prefer to stick with Princess in future as they don't treat pax like criminals and they are a superior cruiseline. If you want to take alcohol onboard, decant it into plastic bottles and wrap in bubble wrap and snap lock plastic bags, as glass will show up on their x-rays.

Happy cruising,

Bonnilee

OMG Bonnilee, public humiliation  . I did not expect that. I pictured a discreet room.

Now, I read that even buying a bottle at the bar is not easy.

Yes, Fiona, I would appreciate an e conversation. Just in case DH wants to live dangerously.

Many thanks for your replies.

in both quotes were is was said about buying bottles of wine and being able to take it back to your cabin (P&O AUSTRALIA) .

We have all ways bought bottles of wine and takin them back our cabin, firstly you just do not tell them what or where you are going to take it, secondly they/P&O have changed where you can buy a bottle of wine, it used to be any bar, but theses days its only in two places, weather you have a fridge or not they will have an ice bucket in your cabin.

We would buy three bottles at a time and take them back to oue suit/ mini suite,

Used Rum Runners on Pacific Sun in September with no problems, they are NOT detectable through the scanners,

Thank You Alan :) DH will be happy.

I was surprised at post #6. I thought P & O must have the latest technology re scanners, but , hmmmm, that didn't seem likely.
