annf Posted April 29, 2011 #26 Share Posted April 29, 2011 i dont know. I just remember seeing him in from of me in the customs line (he was wearing the hat) and they instructed him to remove it and give it to them. <<EDIT: IT WAS A BANANA LEAF HAT>> LOOKED JUST LIKE THIS. http://www.redbubble.com/people/karenm/art/3681728-banana-leaf-hat It's considered produce. If they hadn't taken it getting back on board, customs wouldn't have allowed it back in the US at the end of the cruise.
SkyMaster Posted April 29, 2011 #27 Share Posted April 29, 2011 FAUX TUXEDO T-SHIRTS? HEY, I resemble that remark. If I take my REAL tuxedo, my luggage will get a lot heavier, and I'll probably have to pay a lot of extra charges to the airline, or else I'll miss dinner on formal night, and then I'll have to stay in the cabin all evening on formal night! BUMMER! "SKY"

michelle1836 Posted April 29, 2011 #30 Share Posted April 29, 2011 Huh, I've taken a Swiss army knife on almost every cruise and never had an issue... perhaps it depends on if you carry it on or check it in your luggage?
westview1 Posted April 29, 2011 #31 Share Posted April 29, 2011 Conch shells. My BFs DD bought one in Nassau and we were told at the disembarkation talk that we could be fined by customs if brought back in to the US. The straw bag I bought was ok, since it wasn't considered "living" anymore. I can't remember the amount but I think it was $500 at the time (2007). Thundertouch Posted April 29, 2011 #34 Share Posted April 29, 2011 corkscrew will not get confiscated but may earn you a trip to the naughty room! I have brought 2 corkscrews onboard every trip and never went to the naughty room.In fact in the wine and fruit basket they give you one with the carnival logo on it.At least they do ours..I have about 8 of them now. captswanson Posted April 29, 2011 #35 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I've carried the same Swiss army knife on every cruise. I've never had a problem. I've also purchased straw hats from Jamaica, Mexico, Trindad and the Bahamas without a promlem.
sabri Posted April 29, 2011 #36 Share Posted April 29, 2011 I guess this might be a good place to ask this question. I heard you can bring wine from home onto the ship. what about a plastic bottle of Margarita (with the alcohol in it)? or is it only wine that you can bring? thanks
