not sure if this has been done or not. thought it would be a good ideal to compile a list of things you shouldnt bring, shouldnt buy in port because carnival and customs will confiscate them.

things i know:

  1. my dad got his swiss army knife taken before we boarded.
  2. seen a guy who got a straw hat in jamaica have it confiscated by customs.
  3. i've heard slingshots that are sold in Mexico will be confiscated when you get back on board.
  4. taking food off the ship at debarkation

please feel free to add and i will add to the list.

Probably because it was made from a plant and cannot be brought back to the US.

I think we have a winner....Customs will not allow any plants into the US. if he waited until it turned brown proving the banana leaves as null and void (i.e. dead) then all would be AOK

Maybe the difference is it was purchased while on a Princess cruise? I don't know, just thought of the purchase as a handmade "trinket" of sorts to bring home for a pre-teen boy. There are so few things to purchase for a child his age. BF and I discussed wither or not we would have problems bringing it onboard, but decided if it was taken, we would just be out the $8 or so dollars we paid for it. It was not questioned, but the bottle of vodka purchased in port, now that was confiscated until the end of the cruise.

I bought a baseball bat in Cozumel that security didn't want me to bring on board. (carved, hand painted about 2 ft long weighed less than a pound) after two hrs and me running all over the ship getting a lot of people involved :D security agreed to keep it under the ship, (which I tried to get them to do in the first 10 min.) the funniest part (not) was that I bought two macrame chairs at the same time, they had basically the same wood on top, same length, a little heavier in weight but they were just not painted yet security had no problem with the chairs. Still had a good trip:)

DH bought a hat made out of palm leaves in Cozumel. A crew member told him to hide it in our luggage when we disembarked. He said it was considered a plant and not allowed to go into the US.

This list made me laugh out loud, and I work in a library! I got some dirty looks from people trying to read....
