legalsec Posted May 19, 2004 #1 Share Posted May 19, 2004 While these boards are a tremendous help in answering questions I didn't even know I had, can someone recommend a good book for first time cruisers....like cruising 101? thanks
serene56 Posted May 19, 2004 #2 Share Posted May 19, 2004 Instead of reading books--get all your information here. There is not a book out there that could give me the information I learned. This is a condensed version of cruising for dummies- it even has a port of calls board where you can learn tons of information on what to do where you are headed. HappyStamper Posted May 19, 2004 #4 Share Posted May 19, 2004 I bought Fodor's Caribbean Cruises and Ports of Call. It has a lot of information for making comparisons and narrowing down your choices. I've really learned alot here, though!
tjevans Posted May 21, 2004 #5 Share Posted May 21, 2004 There is a book I used before my first (and only cruise) called "Cruise Control." You can find it doing a search on Amazon. While it was a good general idea what to expect, much of it seemed outdated. I think these boards are a much better place to educate yourself. <applet code="countdown.class" CODEBASE="http://*************/java-sys" width="203" height="25"> <param name="font" value="lcdb0"> <param name="year" value=2004> <param name="month" value=4> <param name="day" value=18> <param name="hour" value=18> </applet> Carnival Conquest 4/18/
VickiVSN Posted May 22, 2004 #6 Share Posted May 22, 2004 I've got links to several books on my website below. Two must reads for first timers are Cruise Control by Pamela Kane and The Essential Little Cruise Book by Jim West. I'm a big reader myself . Lady_K Posted May 26, 2004 #8 Share Posted May 26, 2004 If you're cruising the Caribbean, Frommer's book on cruises is excellent. Gives a general overview of cruising, then it details each of the cruise lines and ships, then discusses all the ports of call. Great book! zazzy Posted May 26, 2004 #9 Share Posted May 26, 2004 Kane has a new book "Happy Sails" which is very good and funny a bit too. Also just picked up Cruising for Dummies and a few based on Europe as that is where we will be "first time cruisers" Zazzy until our virgin cruise Westerdam 8/30/
