amysguy Posted May 5, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 5, 2011 We have decided to just have a lazy day on Belize and want to do some local shopping. What is close by, what kinds of things can we find, and is it safe? We like to buy local arts/crafts if at all possible. Anyone want to share their information on where to go? Thanks! Rare crewsweeper Posted May 5, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 5, 2011 Tourism Village is your local shopping area.:( Belize City is not your Charlotte Amalie or Phillipsburg or even Georgetown, CI. There's no Plaza like Cozumel. You can venture out and head across the swing bridge into downtown Belize City (10 minute walk). But most of the shops there cater to locals. Brodie's is the department/general store along Albert Street and carries a wide variety of things. And there is a small "crafts"/flea market across the street from the T.V. and down about about a block.
evandbob Posted May 5, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 5, 2011 When you disembark the tender, you will find a building (tourism village) that houses several shops that will sell clothing, souveniers, trinkets, carvings, etc. There's also a pharmacy. Belize, as stated, isn't noted for its shopping. It's on the Meso American Great Barrier Reef, and has lots of natural beauty in its landscape and plenty of history through its culture and ruins, but shopping isn't the main attraction here. For me, that's a good thing, for you, OP, maybe not so good.
