jenpet Posted May 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 14, 2011 In 3 weeks we are going on the Celebrity Eclipse. It is our first cruise with this line & we are slightly concerned as we usually go on ships with no children. Does this ship usually have a lot of children on board & are they all well looked after so as not to annoy the adults? Do many of them eat on the second sitting at dinner? true45 Posted May 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 14, 2011 Hi There are usually only a few children on Celebrity, especially if travelling while the children are in school as you seem to be. And if there are children, they usually have early dinner time. Have a great time. Linda
Rare cruisestitch Posted May 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 14, 2011 Some schools are out for summer holidays by then, but many schools have classes into June, so you won't find as many families as you would say, in July. Celebrity offers an extensive program for children and many of them go every day. That's a 14 day itinerary, isn't it? They are much less likely to have mobs of children aboard than the shorter itineraries. And you are correct, it's unlikely that many children will have late seating dinners. Jenpet Gosh I can't believe how anti-children Celebrity passengers are sounding!!! Scrapchick have you seen this? As Eclipse is sailing out of Southampton you will be relieved to hear the most schools in England do not break up until Friday 22nd July. After that date us teachers and parents are likely to be on holiday (we will be on the Eclipse on 30th July and can't wait!!). Not all good news for you however as we break up for half term on Friday 27th May for one week (back to school on Monday 6th June). If your cruise is 14 nights parents could well take their children out of school for one week and then be away during the official holiday for the other. Pre-school parents may be more likely to go on holiday in term time for better deals which also could be bad news for you. Parents with young children who are kids club age are more likely to opt for early dining as the club evening sessions clash with second sitting. Parents with older children are less likely to holiday during your holiday dates as it coincides with GCSE and A level exams. Can I just say as a parent that children do also love cruising and it is a fantastic family holiday. Us parents also get irritated by badly behaved children but please do not tarnish us all with the same brush. My children who are 6 and 8 are well behaved and used to eating in restaurants. They also follow the dress code and love the "sense of occasion" that the main dining room brings, especially as they can order of the main menu and tuck into steak and duck rather than being restricted to a kids' menu. Jenpet We were on the Eclipse this past April during our son's spring break. There were very few children on board. The children that were on board were extremely well behaved. Typically, you will find parents with younger children choosing the earlier seating and those with older children will choose the later seating. Enjoy your cruise...she is a beautiful ship! 2theship Posted May 16, 2011 #11 Share Posted May 16, 2011 When our children were young, we enjoyed Celebrity because it was such a positive experience for kids. But, the group was much smaller (even in the summer months) and the staff-to-kid ratio seemed to be better. As has been mentioned, we used early dining times because their programming tended to well underway by 8:00 p.m. The only problem we had with our children on Celebrity was that some older passengers didn't seem to think that children belonged there:rolleyes:. The staff, including dining room and elsewhere, however, was always terrific!
