Onboard Restaurants - Portofino/Chops worth it?

With our planning we are trying to find out what people thought of the onboard restaurants. Are they worth it? We thought they sounded great and might we worth the time and expense. We had a friend tell us that we won't want to miss and evening in the main dining room. That we will have developed friendships with the staff and also that due to the eveing shows we won't want to spend 3 hours at diiner. Any ideas?

Don't know about Chops, but our meal in Portofinos was the best one of the entire cruise. The service was perfect and the food was incredible. We will definately go there again.

Chops was also very good. We picked a night where we had a late excursion and would miss our early dining time.

My husband and I estatically recommend Portofino's. The service was excellent! We dined at a table next to the Captain and he was very engaging. But the food is to die for! Get whatever your server recommends (unless it is something you loathe) because they truly know best. Enjoy!
