Emergency contact for family

Hi, I'll be sailing on the Noordam in 2 weeks and can't seem to find a ship contact number to leave for my family. If someone needed to contact me on the ship, how would they do that? I don't see anything in my boarding information.

It's a bit tricky to find on the website, but if you go to the FAQ, it's under Shipboard Life -> Onboard Communication -> What About Telephone, Fax & Mail Usage?

 

Here's the part you're looking for:

 

Telephone: Shore to Ship

Connecting to a Holland America Line vessel at sea is simple by using DialAShip.com. A credit card is required for all inbound phone calls to a ship. The rate is $USD16.00 per minute and billing begins at the time specified. Please have the ship's name, your party's name and stateroom number.

Instructions:

Dial 1-866-HAL-SHIP (1-866-425-7447). From outside the U.S. access 1-732-335-3278.

Listen to the announcement.

Listen to the menu and select the number that corresponds to the ship you are calling.

If you receive a busy signal or message, please hang up quickly and try your call again.

I give a copy of this one to our friends who watch our house for us.

We have always given our family/friends the standard emergency contact information.

 

However, from now on we're also going to use email on our iPhones. Both of us will set up a second email account which will only be given to a select few with explicit instructions that it is for emergencies only. That way we won't get all the jokes, videos, etc nor junk email. We'll buy the cheapest internet package and check this email account a couple of times per day.

When cruising I turn off the data on my BlackBerry and tell people to contact me by text messages I just use data to get email when I can get a free wifi service.
