qkslvr Posted May 26, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 26, 2011 First cruise trip with the grandkids (3, 6, 8, 16 yrs). How do most of you handle airport transportation with toddlers and extended family? Do we need to lug car seats, or do airport shuttles provide/ require them? There are nine of us traveling ( five adults , four grandkids). Also, does the New Orleans port offer baggage storage by the hour? Our return flight doesn't leave until late in the day, and it would be nice to do something in New Orleans for awhile before heading to the airport. Thanks for any insight you can provide! GoVikes Posted May 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 27, 2011 When we cruised out of Seattle last year, we had prearranged with the shuttle service(a minivan) to have a carseat for our youngest. When we fly out of IAH, we don't use a carseat on the park and ride shuttle bus. Hope that helps! :)
firefly333 Posted May 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 28, 2011 Most people take a taxi from the airport, assuming you are staying in a hotel that does not have a shuttle. It sounds like only one child is close to the age needing a child seat. I hope you dont have to bring one, though some people do bring their own (see the family board on CC) There is no hourly storage at the port .. I think its been done away with at all airports since 9/11, due to the security risks? Either get a hotel room or lug it around? I dont remember seeing car rentals close to the port. Its been ages since I have heard of any places that offer areas to leave your luggage in lockers.
mojean Posted May 28, 2011 #4 Share Posted May 28, 2011 I recommend you call the port of new orleans to see it they hold the luggage. We got it in Tampa two years ago. Otherwise, Harrah's bellhop holds luggage, not sure about the fee, but at least the Riverwalk mall is in walking distance from Harrah's and they've got plenty of eateries in the mall. May want to call Harrah's Casino in New Orleans and see if there is a fee rate.
qkslvr Posted May 30, 2011 Author #5 Share Posted May 30, 2011 Thanks everyone! We have stored luggage since 9/11, but it was in Seattle. We are flying from DFW to New Orleans arriving 9:15 AM Sunday. But our departure flight isn't until 4:45 PM, so that's why we want to store luggage at the port. I've emailed advancecheckindotcom, but haven't heard back, and someone on another forum said they ere no longer in business. I'll call the port tomorrow to see what's available. qkslvr Posted June 29, 2011 Author #6 Share Posted June 29, 2011 OK, I've confirmed that Advance Check In is still in business. They will take luggage from the terminal to the airport. Price is $25 for first 4 bags.
