Hose A De RR Posted May 30, 2011 #1 Share Posted May 30, 2011 ...on Caller ID? We sail on the Conquest out of Galveston on July 3rd. Today we missed a call from from "Florida" at 561-404-2466. Reverse phone lookup states the call originated in Delray Beach, FL. Could this be the mythical, magical upgrade fairy?
firefly333 Posted May 30, 2011 #2 Share Posted May 30, 2011 It should show Carnival as the caller, and they are in Miami I believe not Delray.
golfadj Posted May 30, 2011 #3 Share Posted May 30, 2011 And as I recall it shows as 800 number.

tef43 Posted May 31, 2011 #9 Share Posted May 31, 2011 Beware however, the upgrade fairy's evil twin, the upSELL troll, uses the same phone number.

Reverse phone lookup states the call originated in Delray Beach, FL. Could this be the mythical, magical upgrade fairy? The upgrade fairy has been sent to a retirement home and no longer makes calls. The Upsell "fairy" is actually not a fairy. He/she is a salesperson who considers passengers kind of dumb and makes offers that are often more than the customer would have paid if they had booked the cabin originally via past guest or early saver. The caller ID says "Carnival Cruise". The number is 305-599-2600. Do not get your hopes up on this one. Is it possible? Sure. Anyhing is possible. Is it likely? Nope. cruiseguys2009 Posted May 31, 2011 #11 Share Posted May 31, 2011 This should give you a good idea of what the Upgrade Fairy Looks Like.... We just heard from him on regarding our upcoming Legend Cruise Sailing, and, thou we did pay for the upgrade, from Premium Balcony to Vista Aft Wrap Suite, it was considerably less than the Past Guest or Early Saver Rate. So sometimes....Dreams Do Come True....for a price...:p
bar1068 Posted May 31, 2011 #12 Share Posted May 31, 2011 We got "the call" last week as well. Upgraded to an extended balcony on deck 5 from a 4K obstructed view interior on 4. For the 2 of us, we saved a good bit over the current and previous rates for that category cabin. We sail on 7/3. The call came in on the number that's been posted here, 305-399-2600 but on my caller id it says "Florida" with that number. When the PVP I use calls, I get a similar, "Florida", 305 number. FWIW, my PVP told me a short while back to more or less expect to get the upsell call, says there were a bunch of balcony cabins left on our 7/3 cruise on the Pride. Seems he may have known something!!
momtoabowhead Posted May 31, 2011 #13 Share Posted May 31, 2011 How do I get visited by the upgrade fairy? LOL. is this an automatic thing, they call and invite you to upgrade for a discounted price? I want a visit!!!!
cruiseguys2009 Posted May 31, 2011 #14 Share Posted May 31, 2011 I have no idea what how the random science of upsells or upgrades work. I think that Carnival just starts calling and when they get everyone upsold or upgraded, then, its full. However, this is the third time we have been contacted by a cruise line for an upsell upgrade. :D We have taken it every time.

BeccaBecca1713 Posted May 31, 2011 #16 Share Posted May 31, 2011 I got called by the upSELL Fairy on our last cruise. We already had a Balcony. I think they were offering me a JS. I kept saying "how much" but she apparently HAD to read a very long boring description of the room to me before she could say how much. It was several hundred dollars, so I said 'No thanks.' dodger501 Posted May 31, 2011 #19 Share Posted May 31, 2011 I remember getting an upsell call once, about a year ago. The caller ID did say Carnival Cruise but I do not remember the area code. Here is my problem: My wife and I both have day jobs. We are not there to answer the call. They don't leave a voice mail. Next time I will try calling them back to see if I want what they are (up)selling.
Calico Jack Sparrow Posted May 31, 2011 #20 Share Posted May 31, 2011 OP: Sorry to disappoint you further. Not only was that not the upsell/upgrade call from Carnival, it was a scam charity call. If you call them back you get a recording that says the number is not in service, but its not the same voice you get from your phone company. That is part of their scam. Why can't we all get on the same page with this thing? The "fairies" bring us gifts for FREE. The tooth fairy doesn't SELL teeth. So, if the upgrade fairy calls you, he/she will not ask for money, they will GIVE you a better cabin(if you choose to accept it). An Upsell is exactly what it says. It is a sales tool the cruise lines use to milk a few extra bucks out of a cruise that has some unsold, high priced rooms. If you have a nice aft balcony then they might try to get you to go to a suite so they can upsell a OV. My idea is to be prepared with the prices of the better rooms, so when they call you don't get taken advantage of. This is like the psychology behind selling timeshares. Here you are axiously anticipating your upcoming cruise. You want it so badly you can taste the warm melting chocolate cake. Now they call and offer you this lovely "upgrade" to a JS for example. All it will cost is $XXX/pp. As an ealier poster mentioned, they won't give you the price until they've given you the whole sales pitch. They have to loosen you up, first. DON"T FALL FOR IT. Know your prices before they call or call them back. Don't let them pressure you into making an uninformed decision. Personally, I hand pick my cabin. Not really interested in switching unless its free or nearly free. Of course, be careful what you wish for, cuz you might jut get it.
momtoabowhead Posted June 1, 2011 #21 Share Posted June 1, 2011 i think all Carnival sales people look like this That is certainly what my PVP looks like. My upcoming trip is a family reunion, my third cousin knew someone who knew someone who put him in contact with a certain Carnival PVP. She is GOD AWFUL. Won't return e-mails or phone calls, except of course the time I asked her to call me to submit final payment - I couldn't get the website to take my debit card. Then she called immediately. UGHHHHH. Sorry, end rant.

momtoabowhead Posted June 1, 2011 #24 Share Posted June 1, 2011 I just got an e-mail offering an upgrade for ten dollars per stateroom, to upgrade to a higher deck. We're cruising the Sensation in July. I'm on main now, in a balcony...so I could move up to a higher deck. Uhh....doesn't seem like that big of a deal to me. I could care less about moving higher... craftykitty Posted June 1, 2011 #25 Share Posted June 1, 2011 We got a voice mail from the upgrade fairy (may not be some people's idea of a fairy but it was mine) and I returned the call to a Seattle, WA number. For $200 we went from an OV on the Main Deck to an Ocean Vista Suite on the Empress Deck. Yep, we took the deal.
