Not as many choices (dining, entertainment, etc), but no crowds and a much more personal feel to the voyage. We would sail on one of the Princess small ships again in a second. This was our 6th time and 7th & 8th cruises on this beautiful ship. There are certainly differences between the small ships and large ships. These include: No Anytime Dining Fewer entertainment options. Only one specialty restaurant open each evening. We have also been on Oceania's Nautica and Azamara's Quest. They were all built by Renaissance Cruise lines and are all very similar. We like the size of the ships and the number of passengers, we love the mini suites, the library, the great itineraries, being able to dock in unusual ports and just the happy ambience on board from seeing the same people over and over again and getting to know so many fellow passengers. Of course there are some negatives from being on a smaller ship but the positives outweigh the negatives. We have booked to cruise on the Ocean Princess again next March. After looking at your signature I can see you were on it as well. I helped organize the Meet & Greet and I organized our final lunch in the dining room with all the Roll Call members. MAZANDSTEVE Posted June 6, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 6, 2011 We would not choose to sail on Ocean agin, we thought the ship was looking tired and worn, the staff not that friendly and not much to do on sea days and lack of places to sit and read on sea days, especially if the weather isnt good. There is little to do at night Shows are VERY hohum Casino is a joke Dinners are EXACTLY the same as on any other Princess ship Nice but not better THe advantage is where you go ..big ships usually do not go You will get to know the staff very well as well as fellow pax At night we chitchatted around the shopping area there was little else to do I did not mind the quiet because our days were so full Would I go back ...depends where it goes but if you like bells and whistles THis is NOt the ship for you I prefer bigger ships with more things to do but it is a question of choice However I did meet nice people on the roll call Make sure your days are well planned with interesting excursions THAt will make your cruise Bon Voyage Michele Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They are very roomy and the bathrooms have a bath which makes a huge difference to the size of the bathroom plus the balcony's are larger. We always find plenty to do when on board. We were on the Royal only a month or so ago and because we couldn't land at Easter Island, we had 11 and a half sea days in a row and yet we weren't bored at all. We did have glorious weather so a lot of people spent that time around the pool. We were happy to sit on our balcony and read as well as attending lectures, trivia etc. We also had good entertainers each night. It just depends what you are used to and your preferences. We have been on the small ships for quite a few years now and our first taste of a large ship will be in October, 2012. It will seem strange to be on such a large ship - Emerald Princess. We did have a slightly different experience on the Emerald this May on a Baltic Cruise. I have never felt crowded on a Princess ship before but my big ship experiences have all been in the Caribbean. It was cold and sometimes rainy in the Baltic so there were no cruisers out on the sun decks and only a very few on the promenade. All 3000 of us were inside. It did feel crowded and sometimes difficult to find a place to sit, like at Crooners or the Wheelhouse bar during the day where I've never experienced that before. Other areas like around the pool needed work, showers and one hot tub wasnt working and the Tahitian lounge looked like it had seen better days, the furnishing looked sun faded. Ahhh thats what it is then, they obviously hadn't done ours. Bit annoying really, we opted for the higher grade cabin and ended up right outside the launderette which was noisy and a room not refitted, should have gone for the cheaper option. The bathroom was spotless and the carpet in the hallways and in our suite were brand new. We also felt that the chairs in all the lounges had been recovered. We had cruised on her 3 times when she was the Tahitian Princess, and even in 2008, the ship was still in good condition. It is hard to believe that in a year since we cruised on her last May for 31 days, she has gone downhill so much and yet when she was the Tahitian Princess she hadn't changed between our first cruise in 2004 and our last in 2008! We will be on her again in March next year so I will be able to see first hand if she is in such poor condition as you feel she is. We have just been on the Royal Princess on her final cruise before going to P&O UK and she was in great condition so I cannot imagine that the Ocean has been poorly maintained by Princess. The crew were some of the best that I have sailed with, and they made me feel like part of the family while I was there. (I was a solo cruiser, so that was nice). I loved the whole feeling of the ship, you feel like you know almost everyone (heck, people knew me from reputation - all positive, I swear) It was one of the best groups of passengers that I've encountered with wonderful conversation and I'm planning to meet up this summer with 2 of my tablemates when I return home to Canada. I would sail on the Ocean or another small ship in a heartbeat. Also, being outside on the third deck during stormy weather was amazing. The waves were getting crazy high and I saw a group of dolphins swimming in them.... it felt like I could reach out and touch them.
