martinimadam Posted June 3, 2011 Author #51 Share Posted June 3, 2011 Aloisia - just one clarification...I don't think smoking is allowed on the Lido Deck, except maybe in the aft open area. I'm pretty sure it's not allowed around the pool area on the Lido Deck. The "dome" makes that area into a non-open area. scm1848 is right. There is a very nice area in the Crow's Nest that is set aside for smokers, though, like I said, it was non-smoking during the Tracy Arm cruising, about 5 - 6 hours, I believe. I also met lots of nice people there. He can also smoke in the Casino, which works out nicely if you're having cocktails and he wants to slip over there for a quick "hit". chrispb Posted June 3, 2011 #52 Share Posted June 3, 2011 Richwmn-Thanks for making clear that there is indeed an ashtray on that table. It was hard to understand how anyone could post it wasn't there as clearly it is HAL's standard windproof outdoor ashtray that you see where smoking is allowed. Also, the bar may not be the standard cruiseship lounge, but it certainly meets the definition of a bar- a place where you can purchase alcohol. Well said, I agree on both counts. Even the first photo it was pretty clear it was an ashtray - at least it was to me (I recognise ashtrays pretty quickly:)). It's a shame one or 2 of the "shouters" can't apologise to CT World as GMPajama was big enough to do:cool:

I didn`t realize the Lido pool was indoors. ( Had a quick look now .... the pictures of the area look wonderful!) :D Sounds like there are several areas for Hubby through out the ship. CtheW0rld Posted June 3, 2011 #55 Share Posted June 3, 2011 They have retractable roofs, so it may be indoors or partially out depending on the weather. even if the roof is open, there is still no smoking around the main pool there. you used to be able to, but that changed several years ago. Randyk47 Posted June 3, 2011 #56 Share Posted June 3, 2011 even if the roof is open, there is still no smoking around the main pool there. you used to be able to, but that changed several years ago. We were on the Veendam for the last cruise before they stopped smoking in the aft port corner of the Lido Pool area. That was late March/early April 2007 so it's been four years. Rare Copper10-8 Posted June 6, 2011 #57 Share Posted June 6, 2011 Answers: ;) This (see pics; taken 15 minutes ago) on Statendam is known by two names: The Deck 10 Poolside bar and, more officialy as listed in the Daily Program, the Seaview Bar. The last pic shows the interior of same with the "walkup window" in the closed position. Yes, one can light up (within reason:eek:) and smoke on the entire deck 10 Aft on Statendam. in other words, one is not restricted to one side. There are ashtrays on some tables (see pic + closeup of what a shiny blue HAL pax ashtray looks like to avoid confusion) and more can be requested from staff. Himself Posted June 9, 2011 #59 Share Posted June 9, 2011 Now you know why I do not go to the aft of the Lido deck too often. By the way, today is June 8,2011. It is the 19th anniversary of me stopping smoking.

DizzyDallasDi Posted June 9, 2011 #61 Share Posted June 9, 2011 On our Ryndam cruis last October -- people were moving ash trays all around the aft pool area and smoking whereever they wanted. I imagine it will be the same on the Statendam. That's because it is allowed all over the aft pool area. Read the rules posted on HAL's website: Is Smoking Allowed On Board? For the comfort of all of our guests, all indoor areas are designated non-smoking with the exception of: Casino Northern Lights Disco ( ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam only) Outside Decks Seaview Bar ( except ms Maasdam, ms Ryndam & ms Statendam) Sports Bar Crow's Nest (except ms Eurodam, ms Oosterdam, ms Noordam, ms Nieuw Amsterdam, ms Westerdam & ms Zuiderdam ) Our ships do not have "nonsmoking" staterooms; however, all rooms are thoroughly cleaned after each cruise to assure the comfort of our guests. All showrooms are nonsmoking during performances. Cigar and pipesmoking is permitted on the outside decks only.
boulders Posted June 14, 2011 #62 Share Posted June 14, 2011 OK I'm thoroughly confused by this thread. We will be sailing the Maasdam next summer for 17 days. Our cabin is on the same deck as the SeaView Bar - one of the "A" cabins. Is smoking allowed in the SeaView bar or not? I read the below quote as "not allowed", but the pictures a few posts upthread indicate it is. Can anyone give a definitive answer? Thanks That's because it is allowed all over the aft pool area. Thanks Technically there is no "in" when it comes to the SeaView bar as it really is outside by the SeaView pool aft. In March on the Maasdam smoking was permitted on the port side of the SeaView pool area but not over by the bar service area. Of course, on our cruise I wouldn't have exactly used the term bar as it was just a service area with no stools, etc., that you might expect at a bar or like the other bars on the ship. Haven't seen pictures post-dry dock so I don't know what changes might have been made to that area.
