well here we go let me say first this if our 4th cruise with carnival and one with princess

Embarktation was not good at all Let me make things clear THIS WAS NOT CARNIVALS FAULT. Customs held up the people getting off the ship on the prior cruise they interview each one .So anyway we got to the port at 1030am and finally got on the ship approx 130 pm. we went to our cabin to drop off luggage and to check it out It was ready very clean and we had a extra large deck we was in cabin 8435 on the verandah deck completely on the back of the ship this was great. we droped off our luggage and went up to the lido buffet for a late lunch It was only 1 deck up this was great also.I think the buffet food was good not great but above average.I have read on other post of long lines I did see a few lines but they went very fast We always was the first there to be honest I like to be first at the buffet befor people start sticking the hands in the food. O yes we had our muster drill as we were leaving miami . after lunch we went to lido back pool to meet friends we meet on cruise critic. we had a drink of the day didnt really do much the first night due to meeting friends . we did attend the show the next night it was soso the female singer and the dancers was good but the male singer was awful he just couldnt sing. we went to dining room only one night that was the first formal night the food was good the wait team was nice and attentive. we frequented the casino but they had the slot machines very tight no one hitting much at all I will continue later

Thanks for the info. We are going in December and will be on the Verandah deck, but closer to the front, 8276. It is a quad. Did you do eastern or western caribbean? What did you do in the ports. Thanks again.

We were on an eastern Itenary we went to San Juan, Tortola and St Thomas we were in San Juan from 5pm till midnight so we did not do any excrusion we did go and take pictures down town and walked and shopped all around town when we were back on board the ship and the ship left port we had a huge deck party.the next morning at approx 7am we arrived in the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life Tortola right at the port there is nothing at all but we did an excrusion to the Island Virgin Gorda folks it is Heaven on Earth this place is beautiful If you ever get a chance to go to Virgin Gorda Please go you will see what I mean after our excrusion we did a little shopping in a straw market at the port as tortola is not too big a place not much shopping down town. Let me throw this in We had a great time on the Victory no real complaints at all I will post more later if you have any questions please ask I will try to answer Have a great night James

James,

I see that you went to Tortola. Is that a new port for Victory? As I am going in September, and the ports listed are San Juan, St. Maarten, and St. Thomas. Also, when you got to St. Thomas how early did you have to be out of your room? Thanks.

Hello Tim

We was told that this was the first time the Victory went to Tortola and even the crew was excited as for St Thomas we had to go to the adriatic Lounge between 5:30 am and 8:30 am we got there just after 5:30 we are early risers anyway and there was already a long line but it doesnt take long all they do is look at your passport or Birthcert and driverlicence and give you a sticker showing you have gone through Immagrations this is Immagration not customs and you have to do this weather or not you get off the ship in St Thomas. They sent out a letter if you do not attend you can be fined no matter if you stay on the ship or get off you have to attend. As far as tortola Im looking for another cruise to go there that place is great I am going back there some way LOL have a great day James

Here is more review

We went to St Thomas this is a beautiful place also a little crowded but a nice place if you want to just shop there is plenty You can get a Taxi to down town for anly 3.00 and the taxi driver will give you a tour of the city and the sights for only 20.00 they will carrie you everywhere important we took the sky ride to Paradise Point (What a view) If you go to st thomas and are hungry there is a local resturant down town Called Gladys.eveyone there knows this place all you have to do is ask the food is Great it is local quisine we did lots of shopping in st thomas to conclude we have been on many cruises in the past and this was one of the best I was a little apprehensive by reading some of the negative reviews of the Victory and maybe those people didnt have a good time whos to say but we did have a great time . dont always believe those reviews the ship was spotless, the crew as very nice and attentive, no problems at all as for disembarkment we did not do the self assist they now have a relaxed disembarkment which means they dont call tag colors anymore you can leave when ever you get ready we did this and no problems at all we got our luggage and just walked off went through customs and on the way home I like this instead of waiting for tag colors any more questions I will try to answer Have a great day James

Were there many shops still open during your evening in San Juan? We're sailing the Victory on April 3rd -- I see you're also from Georgia -- and can't wait. Sorry we won't be able to see the forts, so it sounds like walk around and shop is the planned itinerary for us too.

Hello Jean

Yes all the shops stayed open the whole time we was there we went back to the ship approx 9 pm and everything was going stronge the streets there are very narrow so everything was really crowded but I did enjoy it you have to walk a few blocks to get to down town but its not bad at all and there is a town square that has a straw type market in it and the locals do a show there if you like to gamble there is a casino right at the port I didnt go there but talked to to ladies that did and won 80.00 they give you free rum drinks when you get off the boat if you drink if not you can just get punch.I wanted to go to the fort but it was closed and I wanted to do the Bacardi factory also but it was closed O yes if your buying gifts to bring back dont go to the shops carnival tells youtoo there too high found same merchandis I mean excatly the same for less than half the price the other stores had now if your buying expensive merchandise stay with recommended store so they will stand behind it .but for small gifts you can do better from locals and straw marker and if you like candy there is a lady that has homemade candy she sell under a tent just off the post it is very good and very reasonable didnt see any chocolates but lots of coconut candies and nut like a mixed nut briddel it was great have a great day James
