They are just like all the other cabins except they have a porthole instead of a window or balcony

Some categories are smaller cabins E,F,G otherwise all cabins A-D are the same size

The only exception are the C's on deck 6 & 7 forward slightly larger

A & B (verandah cabins) are the same size at 216 sq. ft with the balcony.

C-G (ocean view to inside) are virtually the same at 160-165 sq ft except for E (obstructed view) which is 143. An E stateroom does not have the small sofa the other cabins have so it may be that the actual room-to-move floor space is not much different than the other cabins without balconies though the layout is a little different.

A-D, F & G are all essentially the same size within a few sq ft. without the balcony.

But more to your question, with the exception of the smaller E, a D stateroom at 165 sq ft is the same as the others and the layout is the same. The effect from the porthole may appear larger with the sheers drawn over the window. The small porthole is set back into a larger window recess so light filtering through may make it appear to be a larger window. If you look carefully on O's website some of the stateroom pictures show this effect. The porthole itself is much smaller than the window area.

The stateroom is located on the lowest passenger deck 3 which is farily close to water level. You have great close up views of the ocean and waves. We were told that if the seas are running very rough crew will come by the cabin and 'batten down the porthole' closing it off with a solid steel door. I think I'd like that.

If you'd like to have some sunlight and a better sense of night & day over an inside it certainly will give you that and none the cabins in this group (below PH) are appreciably larger. The 'C' staterooms will offer a much better view if it is a view you're after vs. just getting some sunlight in the cabin.

Thanks for your replies.

In respect of (Category D located on Deck 3) would you know anybody who has said Deck 3 is too low and/or too much near the water?

and

(Category E located mid-ship on Deck 6) - would you know how obstructed the windows are in this catergory?

The lifeboats are hanging in front of the windows

This is the view out of my obstructed view cabin on Insigna so this might give you some idea - I was in cabin 6039 which if you look at a deck plan is in between 2 of the hanging life boats. Not many of the O/V cabins are between the life boats. Just be warned that the crew come up and wash the lifeboats & cabin windows almost every morning. ;)

Here ya' go. Took this before we were moved up (Thanks to our TA who was on board with us!) to a cabin with a window. At first, because the cabins were the same size, I was reluctant to move because we were all unpacked and settled in. I visited the other cabin, just to have a look, and decided to move because we were going to be on the ship for 26 days and the cabin with the window was so much brighter than the one with the porthole.
