Cruising89143 Posted June 12, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 12, 2011 I suggest booking all specialty dining before the cruise. One less thing to deal with once on board. My favorites in order. Giovanni's - Rustic Italian. Nothing like Portofino. Chops - Basically the same as other ships but we love sitting on the patio. Samba's - If you don't like lots of meat, skip Samba's. :) We will be trying out Izumi in a few weeks. Central Park 150 menu has never appealed to us so we have skipped it. Rita's is a good alternative for lunch.
Jimbo Posted June 12, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Does anyone know if they still have the B1G1F coupon for the (first night only) still in the Diamond Plus Crown and Anchor coupon booklet? If so what restaurants is that good for on Allure? Jimbo:)

Jimbo:) Tough to tell you which ones not to miss, not sure what you like for food. We skipped the 150 due to menu. Chose to do Chops, Samba, Giovannis and Ritas Fiesta (only a few times per sailing, comes with 3 drinks). Will probrably drop by Izumi for lunch and the Chefs table does not appeal to us. 1st night and 2 formal nights in the dining room. Cupcake classes - My wife is a HUGE cupcake fan, makes intricate ones at home and has all the books. Even she would not pay $20 or so to make a cupcake - all they have you do is decorate it. save your money. Also, Johnny Rockets makes for a great lunch, or even dinner if you want a relaxing night. your sailing is 2 weeks after ours - our reservation window is open, yours may also be or opening soon. Have fun!
Cruising89143 Posted June 12, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 12, 2011 They do have the BOGO coupon in the D+ coupon book. We have used it for Chops and Giovanni's.
emmy Posted June 12, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 12, 2011 Does anyone know if they still have the B1G1F coupon for the (first night only) still in the Diamond Plus Crown and Anchor coupon booklet? If so what restaurants is that good for on Allure? Jimbo:) I am hoping the B1G1F coupon is still available for our Sept sailing for D+ The Allure sailing will be our first as D+:) I did call the D+ desk yesterday about booking 150 Central Park and asked her if that will still be available. Her response was 'officially NO' but it has been successful so most likely it will be continued.(fingers crossed) On the D/D+ chat thread they say the coupons in the present booklet expire July 31 so we will have to wait and see. Giovanni's is a nice option for lunch. I actually enjoyed it more for lunch than dinner and I have been twice for dinner there. I also liked 150 Central Park quite a bit and will be trying to do that one the first night. We also enjoyed a nice lunch of tapas and good wine in Vintages one afternoon so we plan on doing that again. Have read good things about Izumi so on my 'to do' list for the Sept Allure:)

Jimbo:) BOGO is still there. If you have OBC, it won't pay for the specialty restaurants if you book beforehand, since those will go on your credit card immediately. If that's not an issue, then book as soon as you can, because the "good" times will go quickly. We just looked at 150 CP's new menu and decided that it looks WONDERFUL. We have booked it for our first night, and plan to use the BOGO coupon. The way to do that - which RC "doesn't like", but tough noogies - is to book for ONE, not for two. That way, your credit card gets dinged for $40, not for $80. You use the coupon that night. We loved Giovanni's Table on Oasis, and intend to hit it at least once on Allure. I would like to try Samba Grill, but would need to work myself into a carnivorous frenzy first. I'll play that one by ear. :D Izumi didn't impress us on the Oasis. I'm not big on Mexican food - heresy these days, it seems - so I can skip Rita's. Others have high praise for it, though.

Chops Grille 150 Central Park Giovanni’s Table Rita’s Cantina Samba Grill Izumi Asian Cuisine Chef’s Table Cupcake Class ? do it or skip it? Jimbo:) Allure is an outstanding cruise ship in all aspects except dining. It's not bad. But it's hardly 4 out of 5 overall, while all the rest of the ship is 5 or 5+. There are no "not to miss" venues. They vary from "quite good" to "skip and forget". Chops Grill is quite good. 150 Central Park is awful, not worth an extra penny. Giovanni's Table - regular italian fare. We did not try, but it looked OK. Rita’s Cantina - cheap and noisy mexican tavern. Stay away. Samba Grill - could have been a hit, but turned out to be the biggest disappointment as far as dining is concerned. No comparison with other ships. Izumi Asian Cuisine - no comments (we don't eat this type of food on cruise ships) Chef’s Table - serious reports say: expensive and not as good as on the best ships. Cupcake Class? - If you like it. If you only do 2: Chops Grill Giovanni's Table
