North or South?

We are looking at booking a Canada/New England cruise for Fall 2012. The northbound one leaves on Sept 26 and the southbound one leaves on Oct 6. Does anyone know which way would have a better chance at nicer foliage? I know weather is unpredictable but having never travelled back east, what is the weather like at this time of the year? Would travelling northboard have better weather since it is earlier then the southbound?

We aren't concerned about where the cruise starts.

I hope that Bar Harbor is one of your ports of call. Of any of the US ports of call, BH would be your best bet for the best fall foliage because of its rural setting and being on the doorstep of Acadia National Park. So, after saying all that, I would select the cruise that puts you in BH on or very close to Columbus Day, observed. After looking at the dates provided, southbound starting on 10/6, is the cruise I would select.

To get a better idea how fall foliage creeps across New England, play the interactive average conditions fall foliage map provided by Yankee Magazine - http://www.yankeefoliage.com/peak-foliage-forecast-map/

Thanks for the link. I will have to bookmark that when I get home from work. Bar Harbor is one of the stops on this cruise and if we do southbound, we'd be there on Oct 13. NB would have us pulling into port on September 29.
