caribill Posted June 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Has anyone sailed on Ocean Princess. I realize it's one of the small ships, what's unique about it, different? Is the small ship experience better? I have sailed on the ship both under its current name and when it was the Tahitian Princess. As a smaller ship, you get to know the crew and the other passengers much better than on the large vessels. Also, it only takes a couple of minutes to get to anywhere on the ship. As a smaller ship, it is able to get to ports that the larger ships cannot get to. Is the experience better? That is subjective, but it is at least as good as the experience on the larger Princess ships. Obviously, some things will be smaller such as the casino. Entertainment will be of the same quality as on the larger ships, but not as much of it going on at the same time. It also only has traditional fixed seating dining, no anytime. For pictures of the ship when it was the Tahitian Princess, go to http://fp.caribill.com/ It looks just as good after the conversion to Ocean Princess. Aussie Gal Posted June 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2011 We cruised on the Ocean Princess for 31 days last year when we went from Capetown to Dover and before that 3 times when it was the Tahitian Princess. We love the smaller ships and have just been on the Royal Princess on her farewell cruise. We love them because there aren't as many passengers so if you are tendering, you are off the ship quickly. We also find the itineraries are most interesting as the ships can go into places where the bigger ones are unable to go. We find we get to meet more people and of course can get from one end of the ship to the other quickly. We love the mini suites on these smaller ships, they are roomy and of course the balconies are a good size. We are booked on the Ocean Princess next March when we cruise from Sydney to Singapore. This will be our 9th cruise on the ex "R" ships which include Oceania and Azamara as well as Princess. We obviously love them and would hate to see them disappear. paul929207 Posted June 18, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Like Caribill & Jennie, we have been on the small ships several times, including 125 nights on the Ocean Princess. Like them, we love the small ships. The itineraries are wonderful. As mentioned, they can often get closer to the city than the big ships. For instance, in Hong Kong, we docked at the Ocean terminal, right at the end of Kowloon. The Star Ferry was a few hundred meters/yards away. Nathan Road (shopping) was a quarter mile or so. In the evening we sat on our balcony and watched the lazer show over the harbour. Big ships had to dock in the container port a number of miles away
