bcd2010 Posted June 18, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Isn't there a traditional piece of music played when Baked Alaska is paraded out on a cruise ship? Anyone know what it is?
RedmondCruiser Posted June 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Traditionally they have played Radinskis March (sic) but on the Oosterdam they played nothing. With "as you wish" dinning this tradition was disjointed, at best. Some people were just getting their soup and the lights would go out and the march would start. Now they do it at the Master Chiefs Dinner, which is a perfect venu for the march, but they seemed to have ashed canned this tradition.
Live4cruises Posted June 18, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 18, 2011 I've heard When the Saints Go Marching In several times. I don't know if it's traditional, but it's common!

Rainbow Bridge Posted June 18, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 18, 2011 It is Johann Strauss Sr.'s "Radetzky March" which is traditionally played as the last piece at a New Year's Concert in Vienna. I've never heard anything else on our HAL cruises......

I've never heard anything else on our HAL cruises...... Sidney -- thank you for the correct spelling of Radetzky. How I made it through college in the 1960's without spell check is a miracle. In 25 years I had heard nothing other than Radetzky's March and always felt it was one of those high lights of a cruise. I hope that it is not a thing of the past. Typhoon1 Posted June 19, 2011 #8 Share Posted June 19, 2011 Eurodam 2010 No Baked Alaska on parade. Nieuw Amsterdam 2011 Traditional Baked Alaska on parade. Having it skipped on the Eurodam, I must admit it felt like something was missing from the cruise.
English_in_Spain Posted June 19, 2011 #9 Share Posted June 19, 2011 Here it is on HAL and in Vienna What wonderful cruise memories that evokes :)
bcd2010 Posted June 19, 2011 Author #10 Share Posted June 19, 2011 What wonderful cruise memories that evokes :) Yes, glad for the memories. They didn't use sparklers on our last cruise (probably a fire/safety decision) - they used light sticks - just not the same!
Typhoon1 Posted June 19, 2011 #11 Share Posted June 19, 2011 We too, got the glow sticks. Not as flashy as sparklers, but definitely safer.
