Dave from Ont Posted June 18, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Returning from Bermuda on Sunday July 24th on board the Summit. Arriving at 7AM. Is it possible to realistically make our 11:40 flight. Can we just walk our bags off once the announcement has been made that we have cleared customs/immigration? For anyone that has done this what time can you normally get off the ship by? What time should our shuttle to the airport be scheduled to pick us up. Our travel agent is saying that Celebrity doesn't recommend any flight before 1:00PM. Are they just being over cautious. Just don't want to miss our flight, but don't want to hang around the airport any longer than we have to. Thank you Cruise Critics Members for your help in advance. njhorseman Posted June 18, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 18, 2011 Check out this recent post from someone just on the Summit. They were on the road by 7:45 am using express self disembarkation in Bayonne: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1429444 The cruise lines always give a conservative answer to the earliest flight time question. They are allowing for all the possible delays to the normal schedule...ship arrives late, CBP delays clearing the ship for disembarkation, traffic jams on the highways, etc. Barring unusual dealys you can certainly make your flight if you use self disembarkation...but you should check with your airline for their recommendation on how early you need to arrive at the airport, particularly if you're taking an international flight, as you'll normally need a little longer time for the formalities. Barring traffic delays, the drive from the port to EWR (I assume that's your airport...you didn't specify) should take less than 30 minutes. Meet a few of the folks that will be aboard with you and sign up for the Cruise Critic/Celebrity "Connections" get together. Who knows, you might even meet someone there to share a taxi with. See you on board, even if we don't know each other.
