logansnonna Posted June 19, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 19, 2011 I don't expect a real problem, but if there were genuine service issues, can the pre-paid gratuities be adjusted down before the end of a cruise?
negc Posted June 19, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 19, 2011 I don't expect a real problem, but if there were genuine service issues, can the pre-paid gratuities be adjusted down before the end of a cruise? They aren't supposed to be adjustable downward. Honestly, the service we have received has never been so substandard that we ever felt the amounts should be reduced. If you do receive less than adequate service, I believe your first step should be to complain the the headwaiter and if things don't improve sufficiently, mention the underperformer by name in your guest satisfaction survey. That will have much more impact than reducing or eliminating the suggested tip amount and in that way, you don't risk having your action misinterpreted as simply as an indication that you are cheap. geojobes Posted June 19, 2011 #4 Share Posted June 19, 2011 I've never had MTD on RCCL, but once had Anytime dining on Princess. We had the same wait staff 4 nights & on each of the 3 remaining nights we had 3 different wait staffs. The waiter & assistant we had 4 nights was THE BEST we've ever had on 4 cruise lines! One other night the wait staff was the second best we've ever had. One night we had the worst, uncaring, slow waiter & no assistant. We would have been well within our rights to not pay tips for that day (the guy wasn't even worth the $50 a month the cruise line pays him.) But, if we did drop the tips for that day, it would have hurt the other wait staff members, also, including the best we ever had. The tips in the MTD & Anytime dining schemes are shared. Even if you have the same waiters every night, the tips go in the pool. We, or course, sought out the Best wait staff on the last night & gave them extra. The extra they get to keep. This is just food for thought. Take it any way you want.
Rare silentbob007 Posted June 19, 2011 #5 Share Posted June 19, 2011 If you are that upset, you just need to talk to the head waiter. It could be that the server has no idea that you are unsatisfied, but in any case, they can't make changes to please you unless they know what is upsetting you. Moeve Posted June 20, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 20, 2011 If you don't like something then for heavens sake don't wait until the end of the cruise to say so via the tip. They can only change something to suit you if they know about it. Ask to see the MD right away.
