Radiance Cruise - 6/10/11 to 6/17/11

Recommended Posts

Does anybody else find it puzzling that this ship just went through dry dock and the plumbing issues weren't fixed?

I think it just shows what the reason for the drydock was - revenue enhancement opportunities.

Very disappointed the pub is off limits due to smoking.:(

It is an inside venue that all paying passengers should be able to enjoy too! Mariner made their pub non smoking when we were on West Coast but I hear

it is back to smoking.....

We do not want to change cruise lines, so that is not the answer.

Mariner's pub went back to smoking before she left LA. No smoking meant far fewer patrons, and they need all the onboard revenue they can generate these days. At least they kept Bolero's non-smoking - I hated coming off the stairs and getting a lungful of smoke!

I thought the Mariner was smoke free while Capt Johnny was @ the Helm.

Is that not correct?????

I was hoping, with the Mariner coming to Galveston, it would be that way:(

It was so nice walking into the pub to grab a pint pre dinner and no cigarette smoke.

Can't believe they allow smoking in the British pub. It's not even authentic - the Brits don't allow smoking in the real thing!

Now THERE'S the perfect reason to discontinue smoking in all the RCI pubs! :D:eek:;). Thank you!

Do you think they will have just part or half of the pub smoking? BUT it will still effect the entire venue, the ceilings are low and unless they installed some kind of ventilation I will not be able to enjoy this area.

That would be the equivalence of having a non-peeing section in a swimming pool ;).

I never sailed with Captain Johnny, but I don't think that it was his call. They made the Wig & Gavel nonsmoking, which thrilled people walking by (and probably the folks who worked there), but the nonsmokers didn't start hanging out and drinking in there. So they spent a couple of weeks going back & forth between smoking & non, and decided that they couldn't afford the revenue hit. So they went back to smoking.

In Bolero's, most of the smokers I observed had on uniforms, so converting that venue to non-smoking probably didn't hurt their bottom line too much.

There was no revenue loss to the cruise line. The smokers just went to a different bar so any revenue was lost only by the bar staff. As noted by someone else there is no smoking in real Brit pubs, but you just have to walk out the door to get a smoke. On a cruise ship with the pub on the promenade or inside near the casino it makes it a bit harder to have a smoke.

On Radiance, the new pub is outside the casino but if you walk through the pub you come directly to the doors to the lifeboat deck. Now that you mention it, it would be so easy to send the smokers outside to smoke. Or they could walk into the casino and smoke at that bar which is right next door.

There's no excuse to allow smoking in the pub when you look at it like this. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

If only it were that easy to send the smokers outside. The casino and the new pub are located on Deck 6 with no access to an outside deck. The doors to which you refer on the lifeboat deck (Deck 5) provide access from the shops, photo gallery and lower level of the theatre.

Oh yeah, the theater is on decks 5&6 with the outside decks on deck 5. They could walk down a deck since the stairs are right there. Or just walk those few steps back into the casino and smoke. There just isn't any reason that the casino bar and the pub, being so close together, both need to allow smoking. The casino is a smoking venue - the pub might actually get more use if it was made a non-smoking pub.

Appreciate the review and the opportunity to ask questions - many thanks..!!

I have one question which likely many others wld like answered also: on which deck(s) were the sewrage smells noticeable excluding the one u mentioned being on - Deck 9?

We are on Deck 10 in Sept or perhaps not, depending on whether or not Deck 10 is also one of them..after a previous cruise on that level! :(

Thanking u in advance for this info..

Have great future cruisin'! :)

Except for the nights that the casino is non-smoking. Then the pub needs to be a smoking lounge. You can enjoy the non-smoking Schooner, the Colony club, etc. etc....

Since the bulk of the cruising public are non-smokers why shld the NEW Pub have to be a smoking allowed area or at a minimum it shld be confined to say an hr each aft & evening and non-smoking the balance of the time..

Won't help me or others like me though cause I am allergic and get ill from cig/cigar smoke - why can't I use the Pub? Because others can't control themselves for a 1/2 hr to an hr or so while they are there and what about the others who can't stand the 'stink' (and I used to be a smoker for a short time till I realized how ridiculous a habit it was: expensive, dangerous & 'stinky' too)!!

Time to ban cigs from everywhere except outside decks & private cabins..on cruiseships

but JMO of course except for the huge group of the other non-smoking cruising public :)!

Have great cruisin' all! :)
