Protests on the Train Line to Rome

Hi have just read on an RCI thread that there was a protest on the train line to Rome end of May/start of June. The reason given was that commuters were protesting about the amount of cruisers using the service ???

 

Just thought it was a good idea to see if this is repeating over the summer as it will impact on CC cruisers planning a DIY trip on the day.

According to this account (http://www.romatoday.it/cronaca/occupazione-binari-stazione-ladispoli-ritardo-treni.html) there was a protest, but nothing in it mentions cruisers. People were protesting poor service, delays, lack of information, fewer trains, and overcrowding during rush hours.

 

Note that this was a citizens protest, not a strike. Of course, it has the same impact ... the train couldn't run with people occupying the track.

There are actually two different trains from FCO to Termini. The Leonardo express, about 8E, goes directly from FCO to Termini.

 

There is also a local, stopping train that also goes to Termini (4E) but stops along the way. We often take this as it is sometimes more convenient to get off at another stop than go into Termini, ie closer to our chosen hotel, or if we are transferring to another train at the Ostiense station. You will see lots of 'locals' on this train. Not as much room for luggage as the Leonardo.

I think you may have misunderstood the OP's question; they were referencing the train between Civitavecchia and Rome, not the airport and the city.

 

Also, to avoid confusion for others reading this thread, the local train from FCO to Rome is now 8 Euro each way and it does not stop at Termini. Only the express train called the Leonardo Express goes to Termini and the cost is 14 Euro.
