Casual & Informal (difference???)

My point about the jeans is that I personally would not go sit at a bar or in one of the lounges/dining venues dressed so casually. Now there are exceptions - coming back from excursions headed to your room to change being one. Going to a country/western themed night, etc. I go out to nightclubs/bars frequently and never wear jeans - usually black pants/slacks. I don't agree with the term - Dress Jeans. Perhaps if I was from Texas I would understand (I am originally from Nebraska - take it for what it's worth) Also, even in Vegas, I do not go to casinos in shorts or jeans. I find if you dress up a notch folks tend to show you more respect - regardless of whether or not it is required.

This is just my opinion, and everyone has their thoughts on the subject.

Hi Scott,

Just curious: why would wearing "jeans" after 5:30p show a lack of respect for the other cruisers. What if one is coming in from an excursion or just walking around the deck? We're sailing week after need and I'm just wondering. I certainly don't want to disrespect anyone, but I've never been on a cruise where they expect you to dress up to sit out on the deck or go to the disco at night. And, I bet my jeans cost more than a lot of people's dress up clothes. I know... my daughters bought them for me and said they are "dress jeans".

I can see dressing appropriately for the dining room or perhaps attending the shows (although I don't care to die on that hill), but ... I'm not so sure I want to go gambling or dancing at a disco dressed like I just came from a wedding either.

Hey Tom,

This subject has been addressed many times. My hubby and I always stick to the dress code for the evening. However, after dinner (especially a very filling formal meal), we prefer to go back to the cabin most times and change for a walk around the deck or a nightcap in one of the bars. It is not disrespectful to end one's evening in jeans no matter what the other posters think. I do not care if I get flamed for this. I would not show up for the evenings main show in the showroom in casual wear on a formal night, but we do not have to sit in the disco or walk around the deck in our formal clothes just so others will not talk about us! Wear what you are comfortable in, enjoy your vacation, adhere to the dress code when you visit the dining room and have a great cruise!
