Minmounce Posted June 27, 2011 #1 Share Posted June 27, 2011 We have never been to St. Thomas before or the Caribbean for that matter. We have always cruised the Mexican Riviera. This time we are excited to try the Eastern Caribbean itinerary on the Carnival Liberty. The only problem I need to work around is that I have a sensitivity to too much sun. Can anyone recommend a beach in St. Thomas that offers shady areas? We are going to HMC, St. Thomas, San Juan and Grand Turk. I have a cabana reserved at HMC...but am not too sure about the other ports. Any recommendations?
Ms411 Posted June 27, 2011 #2 Share Posted June 27, 2011 Most of the beaches have seagrape trees for shade and you can also rent umbrellas. Check the webcam for Sapphire Beach at http://www.sapphireinthesum.com
CruisinTeacher4 Posted June 28, 2011 #3 Share Posted June 28, 2011 I agree--try Sapphire Beach! Lots of "free" shade under the trees. $10 per person each way by taxi, $7 beach chairs, $10 snorkel gear. Not much to eat there but I think they had a few snacks. karena1 Posted June 29, 2011 #6 Share Posted June 29, 2011 Sapphire is great for natural shade and I agree, great snorkeling. We are going back again next spring when on Oasis.
marci22 Posted July 2, 2011 #7 Share Posted July 2, 2011 We also loved Sapphire. There was a girl on the beach getting drinks and food for people. We had drinks, mahi sandwiches and a burger. It was all very good.

Minmounce Posted July 5, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted July 5, 2011 Thanks so much for the suggestions. I will check into both magen's and sapphire. How far would either of these beaches be from where the Liberty docks?

Sapphire is NE of the port, north of Red Hook (the ferry that takes you to St. John) and Magens Bay is on the west end of the island.
