Alaska or New England cruise with 88 year old mom in wheel chair.

Recommended Posts

I don't think there's much difference with regards to age or ability. I've done both and each have their pluses and minuses. If you want something with more wildlife, I'd go with Alaska. One negative about the New England cruise, many ports could be tender ports, and it may make it difficult, if not impossible, for your mom to leave the ship.

Alaska will be somewhat easier but you may have longer flights to get there and back.

Juneau, Ketchikan, Whittier, Seward and Skagway Alaska are all ports where the ships dock. The few ships that go to Sitka have to tender.

Just a warning, if she is a full time wheelchair user and needs a wheelchair accessible cabin, you are unlikely to find that available on such short notice for either destination. We usually book our cruises 6-12 months in the future due to the very limited availability of these cabins.
