Question for those that have been to Alaska this year

We leave at 8:30 in the evening for our cruise. For those of you who have been this season can you tell us how the dinners worked that night. I have read open seating in the MDR but was there a seafood buffet in teh Horizon court? Is there really open seating and is it a regular menu?

How about the Muster Drill... what time was that?

Thanks for any info.

Got off the train in Whittier and boarded the ship. Princess was very efficient and we boarded quickly.

Literally ran to our cabins and grabbed our life jackets and did the muster.

The main dining room was open seating that night. No assigned tables for anyone.

It worked fine and I don't know what was in the Horizon Court buffet. Ate in the dining room with friends.

I don't know what ship you will be on but... On the Sapphire Princess you cannot eat in the main dinning room unless you have signed up for "traditional dining". If you have "anytime dining" you will go to one of the other dinning rooms for dinner and if you cannot be seated immediately they will give you a pager that will go off when your table is ready. On the Sapphire their are four "anytime dining" rooms to choose from.

The buffet is open 24 hours and you can go anytime you want and the food varies constantly.

The muster drill will be held shortly before leaving port. Once you are on-board and go to your room you can read the "patter" they leave for you and get information on the details of dining and muster drill.

Enjoy your cruise:D

We just finished a southbound on the Island. We did a small cruise of prince william sound that finished around 6:00. We walked right to the check in and thru secrity (there was no lines at all). As we boaded they tried to direct us to the dinning room but we wanted to check out the room anf relax alittle before eating. We were booked for the late seating tradional dinning after the muster we walked into the dinning room and got a table for two. Our muster drill was at 7:30 that evening and was quick and painless. Im sure i read in the patter that the muster was repeated the next day for those who boared late.

Coral Princess- when you board you are given a card that states your assigned dining time for the first evening. Doesn't matter what you are assigned on your reservation. We were literally the first people on the ship and were given 5:30 dinner cards (we had Anytime) for the rest of the cruise. Once they were out of 5:30 cards they gave out cards for dinner after muster (don't know what time because we didn't get one of those cards).

We were not able to request a table for two on the first night- we had to sit with others. We were fine with it because we understood why they had this procedure. All worked out well!
