Crew on Coral--origins?

We are going to be on the Coral in a few months, and I wondered what the odds were that our waiter or steward might be from Indonesia or Malaysia.

We've traveled there before and I am trying to learn the language. Our last RCCL cruise, both our steward and waiter were from Indonesia. Hoping to practice some on this cruise as well, if possible.

Is there any data on where Princess staff hail from? Or the Coral in particular?

There will probably be staff and crew from 50 different countries, so I'm sure you'll find at least a few from Indonesia.

The crew origins vary from ship to ship and changes all the time but are a good mix from around the world. The wait staff that I had on Princess ships were from Mexico, Philippines, Portugal, Italy, Hungary, Romania, South Africa and Thailand. In the casino I met crew from New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and the British Isles. The room stewards were predominently from Philippines, Thailand and Mexico with a few from Europe. The crew staff is also a good mix from around the world as well. Whatever language you are learning, I am sure there may be some crew member on board that you can practice speaking with. :) Generally at the Captain's Gala he mentions which countries the crew are from.

Each cruise line has "preferred" nationalities where they traditionally hire their staff from. Princess is more geared towards Filipinos and Indians in this regard... But as said before, the crew is made up of 40 - 50 different nationalities so chances are there will be someone from Indonesia. Try the Sanctuary!

Very few of the crew, at least those that interact with passengers, are from India on Princess.

Sorry to disagree with you Bill, but there are many employees from India. One of the best is John, headwaiter. I just saw him on the Grand in May and previously on the Star in February.

I have just never had anyone from India as a cabin steward or a waiter or assistant waiter or headwaiter.
