Taxes and Fees??

I've been pricing out a cruise at least twice a day, each category on the ship for at least two may be three weeks now. Today it seems there was a big price drop about $55 pp w/ 3 in the cabin. But as I was pricing each category I noticed a hefty change in the taxes and fees. Up $14 per person. I've never seen the taxes and fees change like that. Still $40 pp for a 4 day cruise is a good drop, but really makes you wonder. I thought taxes and fees were more of a fixed cost.

Some folks have recently gotten refunds of taxes and fees of $25... There can be some pretty dramatic changes generated by the governments of the ports... some lower fees to attract more business... some raise fees to snag more revenue...

I do know the fluxuate.. this four day cruise has one port.. Cozumel.

Since port fees are included in your cruisefare.. not part of the add on taxes and fees, that would not account for the change in add on taxes and fees.

Mach.. if you are still here (or anyone who know the answer) when does ES fares go away for a 4 day? Cruise is 11/24 four months from tomorrow. Right now the ES is cheaper than using the 25% off from the casino (just a tad.. but then there's the price protection).. So maybe I should book tonight..

Thanks Firefly.. I'm chomping at the bit to book cause I really need this. But want a little more committment (or excitement) from mom especially to book ES. She was admitted through ER and came out with a pacemaker just two weeks ago and still a little uneasy about everything. This is my treat, but don't want to get burned.

How much extra is the next best rate that you can cancel?? Sometimes I go that route.

 

I like last minute rates too, when Im not sure. Iv booked quite a few times within the last week.

OH My goodness I'm feeling like an idiot. I must have clicked on the wrong cruise. Thank GOD I stopped to ask some questions. I had credit card in hand ready to pay before clicked on another tab to come here and ask about the change in taxes and fees. Then I talked to my Mom and when you said ES ended 3 months before the cruise I closed the carnival tab sitting on the payment window. I went back to look when you asked about the difference in price.

 

Now it all makes sense. I was looking at the 11/14 five day. Cheaper price but would have burned up 5 vacation days I'm saving for my Princess Med Cruise next May. 11/24 will cost me ZERO vacation days!

 

I need a drink. I was SO CLOSE to making a monumental mistake!

OH be carefull. I just out of the blue booked the Triumph for 11/7 a day ago, and I kept saying to my PVP, ok we have the same cruise right, its ...I am always afraid with this ES of getting the wrong cruise.

 

I hope to meet you too... just come on Triumph instead?

I would LOVE TOO...I'm still on the 10 vacation days a year plan... 4 months till I get 15 (but I'm three in the hole thanks to my 10 day cruise in March!).. I should be able to use sick days to cruise.. after all it is an addiction and that could count as a mental illness. And it seems to get more sever with every cruise! I keep telling my parents to make their drs. appts on the weekends, but that hasn't worked yet.

 

But in all seriousness Firefly.. I really want to thank you for all your advice and input on these boards. It's alway straight and to the point, and most important accurate!
