Halifax on Labor Day

We will be in Halifax on Labor Day and went to reserve a rental car and found they are all closed. I know it is a US holiday bit is it also celebrated in Canada? If so, will everything be closed when we are there?

Yes, it's a holiday in Canada.

 

I'm actually surprised, however, that car rental agencies would be closed. But Atlantic Canada perhaps marches to a different drummer than here in Toronto.

The waterfront will be full of people and restaurants and touristy shops will be open. I imagine all the shops at the cruise terminal will be open too and there are some excellent ones there.

 

I think if you do a bit of digging (google) you may be able to find a rental car. someone on Tripadvisor reported having a difficult time finding a car this week but they were able to rent one in the end. There will be lots of taxis waiting at the pier, and if a group of you get together it would not be too expensive to get to Peggy's Cove.

 

As for non- tourist type stores, they will likely be closed, but that is probably no great loss.

Yes hubby managed to find 2 that would be open, Avis and Thirfty I believe. Now we have to decide if we will rent a car or just walk around the city...

Canada does not have a Labor Day. But we do have a Labour Day. LOL;);):D:D
