Summit casino ?

Just read a review that said the slots were being changed over to non coin. Do you use your account card and run a tab or use against OBC, a separate card that's pre loaded with a certain amount of $ or ??? Thanks!

Yes, all the slots were replaced during our cruise (7/17-24, while the casino was closed in Bermuda). No more coins. Gamblers were using a swipe card- I assumed it was their cabin sea and sail card, but since I don't gamble, I'm not certain if there were other options. I do know they said no more coins. Hopefully the most recent Summit cruisers can give more details for you.

Assuming that the updated slot machines on Summit operate in the same manner as those on the Solstice-Class ships [which have always been coinless]...

  • Insertion of your SeaPass card into a slot machine is used to track your play... Period... That play may entitle you to a small gift or cash rebate under a rather minor rewards program should you reach a points threshold to receive one [sorry, I don't recall the $ value of play that translates to one point]...
  • Initial play is still funded with currency [paper US $]...
  • Slot machine cashouts [other than hand paid jackpots] are issued via voucher... Those vouchers can be redeemed for cash with the casino cashier or can be inserted--like cash--into a slot machine to fund additional play...
  • You may use your SeaPass card to take a cash advance [subject to daily limitations] from the casino cashier subject to a 3% service fee [ie; your account will be charged $103 for a $100 advance]. Such advances are charged to your credit card of record at cruise-end [as an on-board expense, not a cash advance] and will be offset by any unspent onboard credit remaining in your account...

Same topic (casinos) but different question - does anyone know if the slot machines contain video keno? Had not seen it on Celebrity for years, but then it was on the Millie last time we sailed. It is all I really like to play so I was very happy to see it and was wondering if it was a new trend?

Does anyone know if this has happened yet on the Infinity? I was on Summit a couple of months ago and the old system of coins was really kind of ridiculous....I'm glad they are changing to the more modern system useed in land based casinos......

I was on the 7/17 cruise when they changed over the machines. It was a pretty botched up job (which didn't bother me too much as I rarely play slots). At breakfast one morning in the buffet (the day we left Bermuda) I sat next to the IT team and they were discussing how this was never going to be ready for their big unveiling that evening. Sure enough, after dinner I went to the casino and only about 1/3 of the machines were operational. It pretty much stayed that way until we disembarked on Sunday.

What they did was removed almost all of the old style reel games and replace them with HD video terminals. They look great, at least the few that I saw working. I played one for the hell of it and it paid $190 on my $20 investment. The machine was right next to the casino cage and had a western theme with a weird reel config. Fun, and won money on it.

I wonder how long it took them to get the other machines operational.

This conversion has not yet occurred on Infinity but, according to casino management, it's expected to occur during the November dry dock...

What they don't like to tell you is that all the Game King machines have Keno available, but for whatever reason, they don't like to activate that game and only activate poker. When we cruise, we ask the casino manager to activate the Keno and unless he's a total jerk, they usually do it.

And, me? I felt very nostalgic that I could put in my actual quarters. :D

When these things first came out I thought it was a scam and that the vido machines were fixed...

I said I'd rather see the reels spin and get real quarters......

Over time I realized they are no more fixed than the regular machines....so basically they are all fixed but my hands remain cleaner not touching the coins...:)

Hmmmm! I wonder if that IT team was responsible for the Seapass SNAFU losing all the credit card info and requiring everyone to resubmit . . .
