Crusintwosome Posted August 9, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 9, 2011 What is the best way to transfer from the airport to a hotel in Corte del Forno Vecchio, San Marco? We will be traveling with a substantial amount of luggage so we need to minimize walking. Can the transportation be arranged in advance via the Internet? eh2zed Posted August 9, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 9, 2011 There are many prior threads on this. Doing a Search (there is Search Forum tab in upper right on screen) of the forum will likely give you lots of ideas.
Earl Rosebery Posted August 9, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 9, 2011 What is the best way to transfer from the airport to a hotel in Corte del Forno Vecchio, San Marco? We will be traveling with a substantial amount of luggage so we need to minimize walking. Can the transportation be arranged in advance via the Internet? The best way is by water taxi. The centre of your courtyard to the nearest dock is 80 yards. Unfortunately, the water taxi dock at the airport is a 10 minute level walk.-no worse than some airport parking garages.- Porters are available. There is a water taxi desk at the airport. No need to reserve in advance. It will cost at least 100 euros but you get to enjoy a mini cruise through the Laguna and through part of the Grand canal. You could ask to see more of the Grand Canal for a little extra. If you are only 2, you can probably join with someone else. You do not need to be going to the same hotel. If you are arriving after a long flight, don't even think about getting to your hotel by any means other than a water taxi. mapleleaves Posted August 9, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 9, 2011 ah, the hidden costs of overpacking.... your luggage takes on a life of it's own and requires expensive transfer options. I would start with your hotel's web site. Most Venice hotels provide directions/info on how to reach them, since most are rather complicated. Depending on where your hotel is in the San Marco area, you could be in for some walking. The Alilaguna goes to St Marks www.alilaguna.it. which is fine if your hotel is near the square. But there's a walk of 7-8 minutes from the airport to the Alilaguna pier. Can you manage that? Or perhaps you could take a water taxi if your hotel has a dock (100E +). But again you would have that walk to the pier at the airport. Options listed below. http://europeforvisitors.com/venice/articles/marco_polo_airport.htm
TheBestIsYetToCome Posted August 9, 2011 #5 Share Posted August 9, 2011 You can set a water taxi up in advance here: http://www.motoscafivenezia.it/eng/?gclid=CMXqoMSlw6oCFQ1b7AodDGK24w
TheBestIsYetToCome Posted August 9, 2011 #6 Share Posted August 9, 2011 If your hotel is Al Codega, this hotel has been discussed here before, and the consensus is that it is tricky to reach, and is best approached from the San Marco (as opposed to Rialto) side. It does not have a dock, so you will have to make arrangements to reach San Marco and walk from there. From San Marco square, exit the square on the northwest side and walk along the canal with the gondola basin on your right. Continue rounding the canal on your right and then walk straight ahead until you cross the bridge (not the first one you pass to your right, but the one straight ahead.) When the sidewalk dead-ends at Hotel Bonvecchiati, turn left. Watch for the tiny passageway (Sotoportego del Vecchio) on your right, which will take you into the Corte del Forno Vecchio. This may be useful for dealing with your luggage transfer: http://www.trasbagagli.it/en/index.shtml?services

woodofpine Posted August 15, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 15, 2011 You're staying nearly smack dab in the middle of S. Marco. Sounds great - but it makes transfers tricky in this transfer tricky town. Venice is a destination where packing light is less an option than a necessity. Also, a place where a hotel's peripheral location near a major boat landing = added value. Watertaxis are very pricey - but for a group of 4-8 it becomes more reasonable. Just relax during your initial transfer, take it easy, the hotel isn't going anywhere and you'll get there (its probably right around the corner?). Take your time, take breaks in huff and puff to take in the sights if you are trekking from either Rialto or S. Marks. Venice is initially very disorienting and getting lost is a 'right of passage' (and you'll likely feel lost - when you're not yet); just anticipate that your transfer in will include some anxiety - that's OK. With any luck, you'll only get truly lost after you've checked in.:) Fine hotels abound in Venice so once you're situated, you'll almost certainly enjoy yourself immensely.
