dnl_in_Illinois Posted August 20, 2011 #55 Share Posted August 20, 2011 We're sailing on the Pearl in January 2012 and have booked one of the Garden Villa Suites -- 14500. As I have done reading about the suite offerings that have been generously posted by past NCL suite users, particularly the GV suites -- I read a couple of things that I have questions about. Perhaps someone who has sailed more recently can answer for us: Embarking - it has been said that you are escorted directly to your suite. There was no boarding time connected with the comment. Is this still the practice - assuming one arrives at the pier around noon? Disembarking - NCL has the concierge escort you as far as the port permits. Still the practice? Free limo to airport is provided. Since I am traveling with my Florida siblings, we will drive and park off the cruise port grounds. I wonder if the limo would drive us to our car? Dining - it is said that suite passengers have access to Cagney’s at no charge for breakfast and lunch. Is this still the practice? Dining - it is said that GV suite passengers are provided dinner at one of specialty restaurants for one dinner. Is this still the practice? I assume that if we wish to invite non-suite guests to our GV during the cruise that we could make arrangements for that through the concierge or butler. Can anyone confirm that? Those are my questions. I will greatly appreciate any and all information you may be able to provide. It will help with our planning and understanding of what to expect. Thanks! DrFootball Posted August 20, 2011 #56 Share Posted August 20, 2011 (edited) I e-mailed my TA and they said NCL does not ever call them for up-sells :( Sorry Evil My Man: "My TA" Is a Large Internet Agency with a dedicated Cruise Division so apperantly he tells me, they do get called, and fairly often. He tells me tho that he won't find out until about 14-10 days out if anything is going to be avialable for that (my)sailing. Personally, while I was "hopeful" of the chance to be able to move to an Aft Anything, I'm happy at this point to stay where I am (Port side Mid-Aft on Deck 10-about 16 cabins from the Tail-end). I know there are currently 2 AFt-Mini's on Deck 11(not yet booked), but I'd rather have the B-1's on 8,9, or 10....Of those Mini's on 11 Aft: they are under the Great Outdoors...and like the aft suites on 8, they are subject to some noise i'm told. :( Doing my own "research" i'm able to see that for my sailing, the Ship is only about 70% booked at this time...Most probably that will Change as we "sail" into Sept. Aft Dreaming: I was once on a "singles" cruise to Canada in my "prior" life as an avialable Man(in the 1990's). One of my "dates" on that trip was solo in an Aft Balcony(I guess she had "Plenty Of GELT!") Bill(DrFootball) ("I don't subscribe to coincidence Corporal. I believe that no matter how random things may appear, there is still a plan. Here in the middle of the Mexican Desert, when I needed him the most, I find a fellow Ranger. Now I need your help to save another." Col. John "Hannibal" Smith to Corporal Bosco (B.A.) Baracus…..) As far as inviting non-suite guests to the GV, you just have to meet them somewhere so you can use your card to get the elevator up to the GV deck. You can have your butler bring snacks if you want but otherwise do not need to involve the butler or concierge. You can only entertain them in your GV, not in the Haven aka Courtyard. That's helpful and we will likely follow through with that approach. We have limited NCL experience but on the Epic they seemed strict about non-suite people coming into the area. We were in a Villa suite there. I am *totally sensitive* to not populating the "Haven" area as I would not appreciate that. I was thinking of a Meet and Greet kind of thing. Still thinking it all through.
whenisthemidnightbuffet? Posted August 21, 2011 #59 Share Posted August 21, 2011 Yes, it's really French! In our DOS on the Star this Spring it was a half bottle of Dom Pérignon Brut. . JMHAM1 Posted August 21, 2011 #61 Share Posted August 21, 2011 I once bought 1000 TC. I felt like I was sleeping on a table cloth. I am happy with my 600. I have always been told and feel myself that 600 is the optimum thread count. IMHO anything over this is too slick feeling to me. All of mine are 600TC and heaven help me that my kids are now spoiled too.

Rare Tom-n-Cheryl Posted August 21, 2011 #64 Share Posted August 21, 2011 I put together a thread a few weeks ago (located in the Carnival forum) which compares suite amenities across a few mainstream lines, including NCL. If anyone is interested in comparing those - have a look HERE! In my signature, you'll also find links to other comparison threads. NCL seems to be near the top of the heap! As far as suite amenities go, my vote goes to NCL - having sailed in several suites on Celebrity and Carnival as well. Tom

On the coffee - since I have no idea about these machines - do they also have espresso pods? Any input is appreciated as DH & I LOVE coffee/espresso and, if they do not supply these, I'll try to order some before we go on the Gem. Thanks so much! (Gosh, I haven't been this excited for a cruise in the longest time!!!) :D

I don't like the flavored creamers because they are sweet and I like sugar in my tea but not in my coffee.
