Boarding time

By the time you get your luggage at the airport and shuttle over to the cruise terminal, it will probably be around 11:15 or later. Then you have to check in at the cruise terminal including going through security (similar to an airport but OK to have liquids and scissors in your carry-on luggage). It will probably be 11:45 or later before you actually walk on the ship. Now, your cabin probably won't be ready until 1pm or later, so be prepared to haul your carry-on bags around for a while. Go to the buffet and enjoy lunch (already included in the price). Honey-stung chicken is traditional the first day -- pretty good if it is fresh, not so great if it has sat in the warming tray a while. Depending on the ship, you might have other choices for lunch like a sandwich at Cafe Promenade. MDR is not open for lunch when you board.

Now, occasionally ships are delayed. Sometimes ships are late in returning. Sometimes customs/immigration delays the previous passengers from leaving. Often there is no place to get food near the cruise terminal. So, I suggest you take some non-perishable wrapped food like cereal bars, just in case. Besides, the cereal bars work well for airport terminals too, and keep a long time.
