Would you think this is rude?

Good for you....

Just wondering....were you bigger than them?

Oh, not particularly. I'm an OLD GUY, but a Marine, and I stay in pretty good shape. I think they saw that I wasn't going to take any "crap" from 'em. They didn't do anything except stare at me, and make stupid faces. ;) They had a couple of young kids with them, and one of them kept coming over and saying that I was in their seats. (At that time, there were only 5 or 6 of them, including the kids, and like I said, they wanted the entire center section, front row).

It seems to me that part of the problem is that Carnival Staff-- some of them, not all-- are reluctant to confront the seat savers and the chair hogs. I've actually never seen one who is helpful when transgressions are brought to their attention. And as one poster pointed out, you can get into trouble for being confrontational. Even if you are in the right, the staff may cut you off from alcohol, etc., lest you meet up with the offending people again. This really isn't fair, but there's not much you can do.

Yes.....there is always a few 'ME ME ME' people on every ship.....and it just ticks off the rest of us.......

On one cruise, there was this couple that went to EVERY show with their 8 yr old (approx) daughter in tow....INCLUDING THE ADULT ONLY shows....

And how about the people that arrive early so they can have those seats on the end.....only to give each and every person that has to climb over them a dirty look for 'inconveniencing' them to move so they can get to the other seats????

I just don't get it............really

On princess, they have the staff take you down to empty seats, and if they are saved they let the the people know the policy. One escorted us to some saved seats and told the lady, he didn't think her Pashima needed a seat of it's own. Of course, all through the show we were getting dirty looks, even though we did nothing wrong.

Another time, On princess it was early in the am and I wanted to go to to the hot tub, I was about to put my towel on the chair when a young lady came running at me that the chair was saved I asked her if she could read the sign, as I had forgotten my glass....no saving of deck chairs, she still didn't get it

Maybe she couldn't read.... Ha!

Iv been the one who wanted to sit down, and I sat elsewhere when I got the "its saved" business for a row of seats from someone. I dont want to sit where Im not wanted either, no fun.

I am the opposite. I would have purposely sat there smiling, laughing, and enjoying the show, just to annoy them. I do that to people on the train all the time, when they sit on the outer seat hoping that no one will want the inner one. :)

Good for you....

I have to use a walker for ambulation. When we were on the Freedom, when we would go to the shows, we would sit behind one of the wheelchair locations to be able to pull the walker out of everybody's way. Usually, those seats were marked with a plastic covered sign that said they were reserved for handicapped or families of wheelchair passengers (don't remember the exact words). We walked up to one of those seats one night and someone a little further down the row said we could not sit there because they were saved. I asked if the person it was saved for was handicapped, and they said no, so I started to sit down. The lady screamed at me that I could not sit there and all I said was "Watch me" and sat down. She got all upset and said she was going to tell one of the crew members to remove me. Well, she told them alright and they told her she wasn't allowed to save seats and that I had a walker and was allowed to sit there. They packed up their stuff and left an entire row empty, except for me and DH. :D :D

I may have even gone so far as leaving our seats and moving up to that row to sit so those oler folks could have my seats. My wife would have been like yours though, holding me back, lol!

You're my hero! I wish more men were like this.

My hubby (Special Forces/Green Beret) is the same type. Polite, but firm and always looking out for someone that might be taken advantage of. Never looking for a fight, but not afraid of one. And that seems to always eliminate the changes of there ever being one. Somehow things always resolve well. I love that ...

Dambetcha lol!! I was just picturing my 5' tall 76 year old Mama getting told empty seats were saved....she'd sit right down I can tell ya, and reprimand any faces or backtalk louder than you would think any little lady could:eek::p Gotta love Mama!!:)

I got the "those seats are saved" crap in the show lounge once.

I had my elderly mother with me. She can't walk long distances, so sometimes she uses a wheelchair.

Well, we (me, DH, mother and her DH) get to the theatre. I fold up her chair and stash it out of the way. We sit down.

The young couple in front of us kindly inform us that those seats are saved. I told them there was no seat saving as I sat down.

The young woman turned around and said...can't you guys just go sit somewhere else? There's plenty of other seats. Nope, the DH said. There's no seat saving. There will be plenty of seats for your friends.

Their friends show up and the girl says...we tried to save your seats but they took them (she pointed at us).

The friends found somewhere else to sit and we enjoyed the show!

I would have thanked them for saving the seats for me, and sat down.

Then if they got up to go complain, I would have moved down into their seats. After all they left.

If that did not work, I would try tomato juice, I have heard it works well on people sitting on the stairs.

Short and sweet its a CD/ACD not doing their job, you will always have me , me, me, rude people on every cruise, some more then others. The only ship I have seen somebody checking for that kind of BS and stoped it was and is the CCL Pride. When Jamie and Kirk were the CD and ACD. They also stoped people from taking flash pictures. All the rest of the cruises we have been on its a go for it. Another policy that is not enforced by Carnival, but "they must do a better job", famous last words by JH. They have been trying to do a better job for 15 years.

Exactly! Why would you have to say something to a crew member? It was obvious. Carnival should have handled the situation...they blew it!

Im 28yo BUT I was raised with respect, manners, & class! I also have had the same chair saving issue in the mostly packed showroom on the Paradise & I kindly said "their is no seat saving & me & my not so mobile mother sat right down, being that it is at the end of the row & really helps since mom isint so mobile" I dont understand the point of seat saving(with the exception of a handicapped/less mobile person in your group) In school in the AUDITORIUM we were told "MOVE TO THE END OF THE ROW PLEASE"(hmm guess parts ofsociety forgot about this:confused:) Hope this GREEDY behavior STOPS SOON it makes me sick of how this "new Generation" of society is becoming! Sorry to rant:o, Disney's showroom crowd control I saw in an earlier post is a great idea for use in Carnival's showrooms as well!

On a Dream cruise two ladies got into a fight over saving seats in the front row, it was a shouting match...they met later in a hall and got into another argument...They were comfined to their rooms for the rest of the cruise....Dennis

You may have seen two women but they were hardly ladies. I'm part of the "don't take it upon yourself, get staff to enforce the rules" school of thought on seat savers.

On our dream cruise, we had 2 women get into a fist fight on the upper level. Rumor has it, one put her hands on the other's child. Not cool!

I agree with everyone else, VERY rude and carnival staff should have been alerted to the situation.

Several years ago we encountered this. Two people were saving 14 seats. We arrived early and the theater was filling up. We were told "these 14 seats are being saved." My response was "not tonight they're not" and we sat down.

I can understand one seat, but anything more is excessive in my opinion.

I usually just tell people "I have a weak bladder"....and they are more than happy to climb over me and get their center seats before the show

Thats funny,I need to try the weak bladder line.I was just thinking---If you show up a little early, there is plenty of room on the stage level. Now if one has been on a cruise ship before, they know that there are these bar people carrying drinks .The rows are made wide so they can get down them.So I don't think climbing even happens. Then again, balcony seats on the Dream are something to be experienced. They are super tight.Don't get a leg cramp. We sat in these seats and it was very uncomfortable. We did have five woo woo girls behind us though.Lost what was left of my hearing.

Very RUDE! I can see if your saving 1 maybe 2 seats (what if someone had to use the restroom?) But me, if I was with a group of people I would never even have the nerve to ask them to save us a seat, we either arrive together and find a seat together or find somewhere else to sit. Someone mentioned the way disney does it move to the end of the row, do not stop, move all the way down and no saving. With all these rude people saving rows of seats I am surprised that they dont have crew members walking around enforcing so people have a place to sit. Yes, on every one of our cruises we had people saving entire rows and not all of them show up. There was actually one show that we could not find a spot to sit at all and ended up watching some of it standing up before finally leaving :(

I had this happen a couple of years ago when taking my grandmother on her last cruise she would be able to take due to age and health. Someone was saving a row for their family. When we walked up to sit done a lady said the the seats were all saved. I promptly told her that there was no seat saving and I didn't plan on making my 80 year old grandmother walk up a whole bunch of steps just so she could save some seats. To say the least I got an ugly look but we sat down anyway. She went to the staff and got no help from them and to top it off none showed to take the rest of the seats.

The rest of the cruise when I ran into the lady I still got ugly looks. All I cod do was laugh.

I agree, I think Carnival needs employees on the Lido who wear AAS shirts (attitude adjustment Squad) to deal with people who are acting like an AAS (new spelling for old word):D
