CanadianTom Posted August 14, 2011 #1 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Hello: Oceania arranged our air and transfers. We are arriving Athens airport and going to the port on Sept. 19th. We've arranged transfers with Oceania Cruises. Has anyone done this before? How do they work? Where do you meet them? How long does it take? We're arriving at 10:30am and wondering if there would be enough time to see some of Athens. The ship leaves at 10:00pm. Thanks, CanadianTom
Rare LHT28 Posted August 14, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 14, 2011 There is usually a rep outside baggage collection area It takes as long as it takes Once the bus is full then they will go sometime they will do a small city tour from the bus not sure about Athens we have only done the London to Dover route which is a longer travel time
no fuss travel Posted August 14, 2011 #3 Share Posted August 14, 2011 You could always take public transit back into Athens to visit if they get you to the ship early. Where are you landing in Europe first, Athens? If you land somewhere else first you will have already cleared customs and immigration, so it does not take long to claim your baggage and find the rep waiting for you. They were standing just outside the baggage claim doors and they hold up signs to say which company they are representing. You just have to figure out which one is Oceania. CanadianTom Posted August 14, 2011 Author #4 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Hello: We are direct non-stop from Toronto. God, I hope they don't wait for the bus to fill, we could be there all day. We have no checked bags, only carry-ons. CanadianTom

Someone will be there to meet you, so don't worry. I doubt if you will have to wait all that long for the bus to fill up. Just relax and enjoy your cruise. We are already counting down the days to our next cruise.
eddmel Posted August 14, 2011 #7 Share Posted August 14, 2011 Since O has arranged your air and transfer, the local rep at the Athens airport will expect you a little while after your arrival. Probably not best to try to see Athens then. The ship will be docked at Piraeus which is 30 to 45 minutes away depending on traffic. It would be difficult but not impossible to take a taxi from there (after check-in on board) to tour Athens. But, the expense would be considerable. Mura Posted August 15, 2011 #8 Share Posted August 15, 2011 Tom, If you are using oceania's air without a deviation I think you'll have lots of company on your flight. At least WE did the one time we took a cruiseline's air without a deviation.
