sirwired Posted August 28, 2011 #2 Share Posted August 28, 2011 Some policies will cover airline fees to re-deposit FF miles into your account. You'll have to read the policies to be sure, or go through an insurance broker so they can comb through the policies for you.

No, you can't insure the tickets. You can insure the $66 as that was an out of pocket expense and, as previously noted, some but not all plans will cover the cost of "re-banking" your miles if you have to cancel. Others will only do this if the cruise line cancels your cruise. Some won't help you at all. Here's one example from TravelSafe: "Trip Cancellation : Benefits will be paid, up to the Maximum Benefit Amount shown in the Schedule of Benefits, to cover You for the unused non-refundable prepaid expenses for Travel Arrangements, including up to $150 for the cost of airline-imposed fees to rebank frequent flyer miles for air flights to join Your Trip when You are prevented from taking Your Trip due to . . . " You're going to have to call the airline and find out how much of a fee they would charge you for the "re-banking", if any. Then when you've chosen an insurer you'll have to know if they require the amount of the fee to be included in the total trip cost you insure -- some do, some don't. If they do, and it bumps you up into the next highest premium bracket (let's say it will now cost you an additional $40 to insure against against a $150 fee) you may not want to insure them at all. 6rugrats Posted August 29, 2011 #4 Share Posted August 29, 2011 You can't insure what you didn't pay for. The cost of purchasing the tickets is irrelevant. If you cancel an award ticket before the flight, the airline refunds the taxes/fees. Your only loss is the fee you pay to redeposit the miles. I have been refunded this by Travelguard.
