Are there tour guides waiting at the port in Monte Carlo

Will be on HAL Nieuw Amsterdam Tapestry sailing Oct. 3, 2011. My thread for this cruise is really non-existent. Not much happening on it. There is no interest in any independent tours for Monte Carlo.

Will there be tour guides at the port (like in the Caribbean) waiting for cruisers.

Or if you know of any DIY for this port, please let me know.

Depends upon what you are looking for. You could easily just spend the day touring Monaco. It's one of the most beautiful cities in the world. Very easy to get around... either by foot (be sure to have a good map showing elevator locations) by the great public bus system or by the tourist "petite train."

The answer to the OPs question is NO. In fact, when you are in southern France ports (and I am including Monte Carlo in this list) there is often nobody to meet ships. Not even taxis! If you want a tour guide you should pre-arrange. The last time we docked in Monte Carlo (about 1 year ago), even the tourist office folks did not bother to show-up at the ship.

i guess every has different taste monaco is interest, but not really beautiful. it is overbuild with a couple of nice perserved areas. monaco-ville (old town) and the casino area of monte-carlo. it is worth a visit, more to see what a country where pretty much every inhabitant has more than a million dollars in the bank.

if you are stopping here, a must is a bus trip to eze village (not eze plage) and nice is well worth it.

Al, you took the words out of my mouth..but we were being politically correct (at least for today) and not saying much. Bottom line for us is if we happen to have a port stop in MC we cannot get away from the place fast enough (we usually rent a car). If we are driving through the region (we have done this quite a few times) we always bypass Monte Carlo by staying on the Autostrade. But, there are some folks that have romantic notions of the place so we often try to be "gentle" when expressing our views of MC :)
