Grenada - Docking ??

There are 2 pier locations in Grenada. One is the old pier in St. George's Harbor that is not used anymore for passenger ships (only container ships). The other, newer one is just below the fort on the north side of St. George's. There's a little mall there with high priced items and plenty of taxis to catch. Just agree upon the price before you get in.

If you have 4 or more people in your group, it's cheaper to use a land taxi. The water taxi rate really adds up for families because it's a per person price.

Hi Toberman,

Thought you had been to Grenada before ?

Its a port we have a soft spot for having seen it a few times before it got wiped out, then being the first ship in after the hurricane, so sad.

This is the old port harbor. You can't see the container pier from this picture though. It's probably our very favorite out of all the Caribbean isles. Absolutely gorgeous beaches too!

Thanks for the pics. Any favorite beach??

Hi Toberman,

You will have a great day, some amazing beachs, local guy at the docks does live sketches, was very good do not know if he is still there,

the history tour is good for a couple of hours,

such a pity you will not get the chance to visit the old churches ,

you will get a little hassel from street vendors,

people are nice,

just after the hurricane, no shops with roofs, many no windows etc,

well we went into a little store, no roof, the guy said sorry so little stock he had lost so much, seeing that we were dripping in sweat he went into the back of his store and gave us ice cold drinks, did not want money for them, was just so happy that we had took the time to go into his shop,

we did buy some stuff,

we did come across other passengers that complained about stopping at the island, which was sad.

Absolutely!!! The far end of Grand Anse Beach. You get a taxi to Allemann Hotel (or some call it the Allamanda Beach Resort), walk through the hotel (open-air walkway), past the pool and out to the beach. Plop a towel on the sand and enjoy a very empty beach:

Grand Anse Beach is just a short water taxi ride. I really loved it. There are plenty of water activities, nice beaches to lounge on, and a great spice/craft market right on the beach. There are quite a few vendors who vy for your attention, but a polite no-thank you work fine. When we were ready to shop, we headed over to the market on the beach and found some greag gifts and souveniers. Have fun!

Here's one pic from the beach:

That was Ivan in 2004? In the fall of 2010, all buildings had roofs with the exception of one large church. A wooden sailboat with aid for St. Lucia was being loaded in the Carenage. One poor island helping another.

Just DON'T go where everyone else does - that picture above is the main beach area and it can get PACKED and you can get hounded by the sales people. Go way far down and it'll be like having your own silky-sand beach!

Thanks... problem we have is some friends are, how to say it.. allergic to sun?? They need some shade whether umbrella or natural. That end of the beach looks pretty open??

Hi Floridiana

Thanks for Ivan, could not recall its name,

have been luck to have visited a few times since

and see how the island has been rebuilt.

My first visit must have 20 plus years ago,

I still recall troops on every corner armed to the teeth,

used to feel very odd, so glad that the island has changed

for the better over the years

Take a taxi to the very far end of Grand Anse beach to the Flamboyant hotel, head to the beach and ask for a sunbed and umbrella and enjoy a very tasty lunch there. Beach is amazing and also great snorkelling just off the beach.

Thanks for the advice... I'll look into it.
