A HMC question I bet no one has asked

Here's a Half Moon Cay question for you:

What happens if you somehow missed the last tender back to the ship (on Half Moon Cay or, for that matter on any private island that is privately owned or leased by the cruise lines)?

Granted, you would either have to be pretty stupid to miss the last tender, or maybe asleep on the other side of the island. Or maybe you loved the island so much you wanted to stay and "camp out."

But has it ever happened? On this cruise line or any other?

Hi there,

No, this would not happen at HMC. The Front Office is checking on missing passengers and communicating with the Island Staff. If there is a passenger that is not accounted for, the Island Staff will search the island while the onboard staff searches and makes announcements on the ship. HAL has never left a passenger on HMC.

From time to time, we have heard a name (or several names) paged repeatedly when it is almost time to leave. Sometimes they are paging these people because either they managed to get aboard without swiping their card at the gangway and the computer shows they left the ship but did not return......or for some reason, the card didn't register. (Ever notice how there is a green light when our cards are swiped....maybe someone passed on by but the green light didn't go on).

This must be what Sungoddess is referring to??

Hi Sail,

Yes, there are often times when guests keycards just don't register at the gangway, so we are showing them off the ship, when they are actually onboard. In that case, we need to find them so that we can have the correct count of souls onboard. If we are leaving someone ashore because they missed the ship (not in HMC, but other ports), we need to make 100% sure they are not onboard. The Coast Guard requires that we send a report with the correct number of passengers onboard within minutes of sailing. That is why you may hear the same names being called over and over again; either they are not responding or not onboard.

The passenger uses his or her room key to go through security when going off ship and so they know which crew and pax are off ship and which are on ship. They will not leave HMC until all are accounted for.

They also close everything on the island down when it is getting near time for the last tender ... water toy rentals, shops, bars, you name it. It would be almost impossible to miss the last tender, cause the island staff would make sure you went to the boarding area.

Blue skies ...

Yes we were on the last tender (almost last, the last one has only crew aboard it) because we had a cabana and we were allowed to stay until the last minute but we also had a crew member walk with us back to the tender dock. Some of crew will not be allowed back to the ship until all pax are onboard so they can help search for them if necessary. :)
