New to Carnival

Probably not a whole lot will be drastically different. Most people think the food is comparable, some prefer Royal, some prefer CCL. I think maybe Royals room service menu is a bit better, certainly for breakfast (minor detail really) CCl generally has larger cabins. Royal has more elaborate ships & aren't as "Vegas Style" as CCL. So did John H's blog convince you to try CCL?? He can be very funny imo!:) Enjoy your cruise!!

We have always cruised with Royal, but after reading John Heald's blog and looking at the May 5, 2012 Freedom cruise with all new (for us) ports, we booked it.

What will be the differences on Carnival?

John is quite a character, we got to cruise with him one time and he had us laughing the entire trip!

The ships will be more colorful and the cabins will be larger. The food in the MDR is a bit better in my opinion but RCCL has a better layout for their buffets. More goofy games with CCL than RCCL so it is easier to have a fun time...

I think you will enjoy...

His blog contributed to it. But we really love finding new places and cruising so this cruise with 4 places we had never been was a big draw. We're going on Oasis in 7 weeks, but that cruise is maybe more about the ship than the ports.

We have heard that the food was a little better on CCL. In terms of having more fun, we are both looking forward to a little less stuffy environment.

CCL...bigger cabins, free espresso and cappuccino in Main Dining Room at dinner. We are regular Carnival cruisers because of the value. Food about the same. We liked the decor of the RCI ship better, but that was about it. We are just always so darn happy to be cruising! No interest in cruise line bashing!

we have cruised 4 times on royal and 18 on carnival--it's been a few years since we cruised royal, but the main things we found to be different (besides the decor--and i still love royal's promenades)....was

A) carnival beds and linens are sooo comfy

B) casino slot payouts---all quarters on the royal ships whereas carnival lets you download to your sail and sign card---a win is a win..lol..but those buckets are tedious

C) if you play slots enough you get free drinks in the casino the rest of your cruise (1500 points)--i got this on my last cruise.

D) free 24 hour soft serve ice cream

hope you have a great time on the Oasis--that looks like a spectacular ship! and have a great time on the Freedom too!
