cocosmum Posted September 8, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2011 Hi everyone Cruising on the Splendor 13 Nov to Mexico and counting the days! We've booked an aft balcony cabin on deck 7 after reading all the great reviews you guys have supplied. I have a couple of questions: 1. I keep reading about the pre paid tips. What are these? I know at the end of the cruise they will charge you $10 pn per person but is this something extra?? 2. Best night to visit the Pinnacle steakhouse? We have anytime dining in case that matters. Stargateman Posted September 8, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2011 Well you will see your tips applied to your cabin at $10 pp, the only other tips you will see is when you buy something from the bar 15%. If you don't mind visiting the steakhouse on the first night do that, you will receive a complimentary bottle of wine.
Sauer-kraut Posted September 8, 2011 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2011 1. Your prepaid tips are exactly that, the $10 is split between your servers, stewards, buffet people, and others you will never see on your cruise. You can, if you wish, give cash to crew members that did something special or and outstanding job above the $10 per day charge. The Maitre 'D is not one of the people covered in the auto tip, so if he does something for you make sure you show your appreciation, there will be envelopes provided on the final night in which to put that 'extra' gratuity. 2. Anytime dining means nothing when booking a surcharge restaurant. What night depends up to you and restaurant availability. Have a great time!! Some ppl love to prepay that way they can budget... some like paying after... 2. Best night to visit the Pinnacle steakhouse? We have anytime dining in case that matters. Never been, I have enjoyed the main dining room tremendously. Maybe to celebrate a special occasion one day. But I have heard it was delicous. Have a great first cruise. Remember you can order more than one appetizer, entree, or desert (but not in the specialty resteraunt). Unless it is on the Carnival classic menu you will not see it again on the menu. deborahjo Posted September 8, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 8, 2011 FYI Your tips are the first thing you will see on your sign and sail account.
I Luv Crusin Posted September 8, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 8, 2011 I prepay tips with my cruise payment. That way it is done and I'm free to tip extra if the service warrants it. I do it for budgeting reasons.
nick_091909 Posted September 9, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 9, 2011 Pre-paying your tips means that you pay the $10 per person per day charge in advance of your cruise. Usually with your final payment, but can be done anytime up until the day you cruise. Tips will not show up on your sail and sign card if you pre-pay them before the actual cruise. Any night is good at the Pinnacle. If you go the first night you can get a free bottle of wine with dinner, although I'm sure they limit the selection for the "free" bottle. They have the same menu every night, so the days don't matter. We will be on the Splendor next week, and have Monday reservations at 5:30pm @ the Pinnacle. This is so we can finish up with dinner early and catch Monday night football :D Otherwise we have late seating dining. Hope this helps.
serene56 Posted September 9, 2011 #8 Share Posted September 9, 2011 we prepay as much as our cruise as possible. We make final payment- two weeks later we will prepay the tips for one person.. two weeks after that we prepay the next person. Prepaying tips is easy-- your agent will do it for you. cocosmum Posted September 9, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted September 9, 2011 Thanks everyone. Makes sense now. I guess we'll find a convenient night for the steakhouse and just book it. Happy sailing:-)
breenw Posted September 9, 2011 #10 Share Posted September 9, 2011 Cocosmum - you may also want to keep in mind the the first full sea day is usually designated "formal night" in the dining rooms and you if that is something you want to experience, you may want to book another night besides that one. cocosmum Posted September 9, 2011 Author #11 Share Posted September 9, 2011 Thanks Breenw. I think we'd like to attend the first formal night but might book the steakhouse for the 2nd formal night which I think is Friday on this cruise.
Winterstale Posted September 9, 2011 #12 Share Posted September 9, 2011 That's correct - 2nd formal night is Friday.
groo Posted September 10, 2011 #13 Share Posted September 10, 2011 Pretty sure you already know this....but just in case....it's $10 per person, per day and well worth the service.

Clarification, the 1st night you sail isn't the "formal night" right? b/c it's not the 1st full day at sea, am I reading that correctly?

S.S.Oceanlover Posted September 10, 2011 #19 Share Posted September 10, 2011 How formal is formal night on a 5 day Bahamas cruise? Long dresses? Men in dark suits/tuxes? Not on Carnival. There will be some but probably in the minority especially on a shorter cruise. Bill
GloriaF Posted September 10, 2011 #20 Share Posted September 10, 2011 So, what would be the norm for elegant/formal night? Do men wear jackets for the most part or just shirt with tie and nice pants? What do the majority of women wear?
okwriter Posted September 10, 2011 #21 Share Posted September 10, 2011 I keep reading about the pre paid tips. What are these? I know at the end of the cruise they will charge you $10 pn per person but is this something extra?? They are the same thing. Some people prefer to pay the $10 per person per day before they cruise just to get it taken care of before they leave. But if you don't, that's fine. It will simply be added to your bill once on the ship. Enjoy your cruise! :)

That is the minimum suggested requirement. Some wears ties'some suits might see a couple tuxes. Leaving on my 12th ccl cruise in about an hour. I can see our ship from our room at the intercontinental. Woohoo! Bill

Looking at my bill the tips weren't added until 10pm on September 11th. There were 26 charges on my account before the gratuities hit.:D Bill Bill
