Thanks, everybody. I just love Cruise Critic...so many great answers to questions.

 

I did call HA and was told it was very unusual to have been given a cabin assignment so early. We basically got back into the guarantee pool, but with the upgrade VF category. They were really nice, and said it never hurts to ask (which was some great advice in one of the posts on this thread). I'm very satisfied with where it's at right now, and believe me, any veranda room on a cruise to Hawaii is going to be great. I mean...when I think about it...I'll bet others wish they had my "problems," right? :D

I don't think a steel veranda is such a bad thing. All the verandas on Maasdam have steel bottoms and our Deluxe Veranda Cabin suits us just fine. It has never bothered me at all.

 

I often sit in a chair at the table vs on a lounger and sitting that way, it makes no difference if it is clear or steel.

 

In any case, you learned a lesson.

 

Book, buy, pay for the cabin you want and you won't be disappointed. The trade off for saving is you 'take what you get'.
