Atlantis Aura Posted September 13, 2011 #1 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Hello- I am a first time cruiser sailing on the Jewel of the Seas to the New England/Canada ports. As a gift I received approx. $100 in Canadian Quarters. On the RCI site it says they will exchange foreign currency to american currency at the Guest Relations Desk or for chips at the casino. If I wrap the coins up in $10 wrappers will I be able to exchange them on the ship for American with no problem? Does anyone know if the vendors in the Canadian Ports would be irritated by receiving change instead of bills? Any ideas and thoughts are greatly appreciated!
Langley Cruisers Posted September 13, 2011 #2 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Hi there, Did you not like the answers you received in your identical thread in the other forum? You even answered yourself, post #7. I realize you are anxious/concerned, but you don't have to post it more than once. :) http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=1481352
Atlantis Aura Posted September 13, 2011 Author #3 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I just realized there was a Royal only forum here ( still learning my way around the boards ) and had hoped to gain knowledge from other Royals who may have taken the New England cruise and dealt with Canadian currency issues ... whereas they may not read the First Time Cruising sections to see my posting...
Expar Posted September 13, 2011 #4 Share Posted September 13, 2011 I doubt any vendor would appreciate $100 in coins but most will likely take $10 here or there with no problem. You can always ask if they need change abd they may be more then happy to "buy" your quarters. I think that you'll find that even if they don't appreciate all your change they are not likey to say anything to you.
lalalisa Posted September 13, 2011 #5 Share Posted September 13, 2011 If you intend to shop, there most likely will be a bank handy to the stores where you could change your quarters in for bills.
CaptData Posted September 13, 2011 #6 Share Posted September 13, 2011 Any bank in Canada or Credit Union will gladly change your coins for dollars. As for stores and restaurants by Canadian law if they are wrapped they should except them. Taxi's love to get change. I have worked in stores and we do have to except them but they must be wrapped if more then a few dollars. As above some stores will buy them especially on a Saturday or Sunday when our banks are closed.
cruisecrasy Posted September 13, 2011 #7 Share Posted September 13, 2011 CCers...as usual, with the exception of one being a trifle 'picky' IMO anyway, have given u good advice - again IMO...:) If I may I wld like to add that: NO - the ship won't accept the Canadian coins - tried to do that once myself and no luck onboard ship so your best bet is a 'Canuck' bank or store once ashore. Spend away and enjoy your cruise!! :)

Atlantis Aura Posted September 14, 2011 Author #9 Share Posted September 14, 2011 Thank you and Thank you :) to all of you who have offered so many great ideas~ ! I have found 2 solutions.. I located the HSBC Bank of Canada who will be on our first port stop in Saint John and are located not too far from port who stated they would be happy to take the coins. I also contacted our first adventure and they also stated they would take the coins as payment for our excursion. Yeah ! :D
