VickiD59 Posted September 17, 2011 #54 Share Posted September 17, 2011 We're big fans of the Miracle as well. Living relatively close to the city (60 miles north) makes it really convenient to sail out of NYC. We're big fans of the alternate Eastern Caribbean review the Miracle sails; San Juan, St. Thomas and Grand Turk. Hitting GT last is the perfect cherry on top. HMC sounds awesome but sometimes it's hit or miss depending on weather. We also found seas to be really rough on the second full sea day, enough that you couldn't go outside on Decks 2 or 3. I think it's pretty common when you get around Cape Hatteras.. at least that's what I was told. We were walking like we were very drunk even though no one had been drinking ;) Thanks for the review, you're doing a great job so far..keep it comin, I love pics!! Never get tired of seeing the Miracle.

You guys look like you know how to have a good time and we can't wait to meet you in a few weeks! :) I know! Cant wait to meet you too! Woo hoo! This is the first time we've cruised so soon after returning. Hope we can get enough energy stored up by then!! We did a back to back once and were worn out by that second week:eek: I'm loving your review! Your pictures are awesome and it looks like you all had so much fun. I can't wait until I get to see HMC and Grand Turk in a week. Keep it coming and happy anniversary! Thank you for the anniversary wishes! I always wonder if I am putting too many pics and boring everyone to death. We also found seas to be really rough on the second full sea day, enough that you couldn't go outside on Decks 2 or 3. Never get tired of seeing the Miracle. I dont know. I swear it was the ship itself but I could be wrong. Worked for us though, we love all of the motion. :)
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #59 Share Posted September 17, 2011 So, after resting up from a second day on the beach we went and bought our next cruise certificate (always planning the next one of course!) and played around in the casino before dinner. I was really proud of our "matching" this evening. The white and purple will definately make another appearance on October's cruise! But I digress.... Yjos following picture (that you can't really see worth a darn) is of Shon getting randomly called up to spin the wheel in the Casino. They had a thing a few nights where they called one name every 30 minutes between 8 and 11 p.m. to win a chance to spin a wheen. The wheel has several different prizes. Shon won $50!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After "winning!" as Charlie Sheen would say, we headed to the comedy club and then off to bed to get ready for Nassau. NASSAU I am glad I have been to Nassau but it is not one of my favorites. The first couple of times we came here we went to ATLANTIS. Once we just took the water taxi over and walked around on our own and once we bought the excursion through the ship to be able to use the pools, beaches, etc. We had planned to get a room at Comfort Suites and gettign Atlantis day passes taht way but never got around to it. This time in Nassau we planned to go to the Sheraton resort for a day pass ($25 pp) to use their beach, non-motorized toys and pool areas. This was not "all inclusive" so we broguht along mini-bottles of various UV vodka and bought sodas and made cheap drinks. (Thank again Gary/CeCe). *eopel recommended taking the bus there but we jumped in a taxi (with broke down air-mind you!) for $5 pp. It took about 10-15 minutes to get there. The Sheraton was beautiful! I took a million (okay, maybe 100) pictures! Here are some:
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #60 Share Posted September 17, 2011 More Sheraton Resort in Nassau: They had quite a few pools. Shon and I made it a point to get in each one. Some had waterfalls, some were secluded, one had the swim up bar... The beach water was amazing too. They had floats, water trykes, and all kinds of things to use. They also has a water trampoline and a huge rubber slide. The slide costed extra, I heard. This resort also has a casino in it but we only played for a second there. Our friends won off of their first bets so we took the money and ran! LOL We went out front and a taxi was waiting and off we went back to the ship.... with a shopping detour of course. Love the knock offs here, btw. The straw market was gone b/c the hurricane tore it to pieces so they has boothes lining the entire roadway towards the ship. I actually liked this set up better. We made some purchases and then headed to our balcony to chill and wait for sail away time so that we could laugh at the late folks running like crazy to avoid being left! Aplmac Posted September 17, 2011 #61 Share Posted September 17, 2011 This year we decided to try the Carnival Miracle out of New York City. We had never cruised from New York ===> Same here! Thanks for the pics showing surroundings. Question: You guys boarded in Manhattan? -on the Hudson? -around 50th. Street? or did you board at Red Hook in Brooklyn? -on the other side of Manhattan. Your background scenery looks like Manhattan, I think? but I just want to clarify, since we cruise on GLORY out of Manhattan in 3 wks. time and am looking to familiarise myself with where we have to go, to board. . shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #63 Share Posted September 17, 2011 Like I said, we got to the balcony and waiting for the runners.... Here's one... And another.... This pic shows the size of the balcony well, I think. As we sailed away, I got a good pic of Atlantis and the other ships in port with us:
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #64 Share Posted September 17, 2011 A few words (and of course pictures) about the aft of the ship: We love the aft cabins. Obviously the balconies are larger (even the ones that aren't wraps or suites) but aft cabins are convenient to the dining room and buffet area, as well as, the lido deck. There also is kind of a "community feel" back there. You can get a feel for this in some of the upcoming pitures. There may be more movement back there but it's good movement. Like rocking a baby to sleep movement. Also, you cannot be seen on your balcony (unless you want to be). If you walk to the glass you can see up and down but when you are sitting, you cant see anyone and they cant see you. I guess someone could lean way past their divider next door and peak at you but that would be a bit extreme.

shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #67 Share Posted September 17, 2011 I forgot to mention this place: There is much fun to be had there! I can't believe we didnt go this time; I guess we're getting old. Boo-hoo. I have to add this little story from my last time in Nassau. I went with a girlfriend and her son (who was a jr. in high school). We went in Senor Frogs and there were tons of young college girls dancing and acting like young girls do. Well, they had Jordan come up and dance with them, I took tons of pictures for him to put on his Facebook page to brag and low and behold.... MY CAMERA BROKE. We lost every single picture and no one believes him. Poor Jordan..... LOL My son has a couple of signatures on the wall there from a trip he took there without me. I dont even wanna know that story..... Bye Bye Nassau...
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #68 Share Posted September 17, 2011 Our beach days were great but at this point in the trip, we were so happy that we had 2 entire sea days left. How perfect! We dont have to be anywhere at anytime! No alarms, no tenders, no nothing except enjoying the cruise ship to the max! We woke up the next day and put on our swim gear and played mini-golf, enjoyed BINGO on the lido deck (the only way I am EVER playing bingo, by the way, is in a swim suit sunbathing on a cruise ship!), Oh------ Least I forget. I caught Shon checking out Judy! (Jenny from our roll calls mother....long story)
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #69 Share Posted September 17, 2011 We almost missed dinner bc we all got together for drinks in our cabin before dinner. We wanted to catch the sunset and drank about a fifth of Disaronno! We finally got to dinner at 9:20. We had to go because it was the second formal night! Shon's eyes tell the story again.... LMAO
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #70 Share Posted September 17, 2011 This was a great dinner night. We all were "slightly" inebriated, to put it mildly. But we danced and had a ball. And I think we stayed classy and appropriate under the circumstances.... and... lol... as if we needed more....
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #71 Share Posted September 17, 2011 And to think, we didn't go back and go to sleep! We changed clothes and headed back out! Young again? Maybe! I have to say, I love the towel animals so I save them the entire cruise. This time I didn't get a mankey, though. Somehow I combined the last 2 sea days... Oh well, Friday was the formal night and I must not have taken pictures the last night. But I am sure you all get the idea. Both days were perfect!!!!!!!! shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #72 Share Posted September 17, 2011 Leaving Day: The saddest day of the cruise. Boo hoo hooo. We dont rush (surprise, surprise) to get off of the ship. I HATE the self assist or whatever it's called. People are hauling crap that's too heavy for them while being grumpy and rushed and pushing and b*tching. Just not the way I want to end my trip. We all met up in the Lido buffet for coffee and hung out until the last wminute and then walked off effortlessly, grabbed our luggage and parted ways. **Notice how relaxed we all look. Our friends son found love on the ship; how cute:
shonandsuzie Posted September 17, 2011 Author #73 Share Posted September 17, 2011 Our flight was not until 6 p.m. and I got a great tip from people here on Cruise Critic to get a day pass to an airline's vip lounge. We did just that and it was great. Our cruise ended on 9/11 so the city was busy, security was high and roads were blocked. We went on to the lounge watched some of the 9/11 Memorial on t.v. and enjoyed the open bar and snacks. *Shon also had some football and I played on the free internet.
