P&O embarkment times Brisbane

We are part of a group cruising out of Brisbane next saturday. One of our group has recieved an email from P&O stating that due to operational reasons boarding will be staggered deck by deck to prevent crowding. Is this normal practice for Brisbane or can you turn up early and board as we have done in the past.If we take P&O'S advice our boarding time is from 1PM for a 3PM sailaway. What do you frequent cruisers out of Brisbane normally do,I thinking of totally ignoring it and turning up early.

they normally dont send emails for embarking so they must have done it for a reason....if you turn up early you could be turned away but we havent embarked from Brisbane either, always from Sydney

I suggest that this plan by P & O is to reduce the queues that usually form early in the boarding process, when later people can just board without delay.

However, in the past, a couple of people have posted that they turned up at their usual (early) time and were able to board.

If you decide to turn up early I would be interested to hear how it works out.

Wow - boarding at 10am. That is very early. :D

On our many cruises, boarding hasn't started until around 10.45am.

as i said 10 am - 10.30 am is for suites and mini suites, and in say that it has bee later but as to the norm it would be 10 am - 10.30 am

Can't speak for Brisbane, but on our recent cruise on the Pearl out of Sydney (28 August) P&O sent out an email to friends of ours who had booked through them, stating that boarding times were staggered and their boarding time was 2.30pm which meant ours was as well as we were on the same deck. They came with us to the terminal, we arrived at the termianal at 10.10 am, checkin started at 10.15, and we were called for boarding at 11.30 and on the ship by 11.40. On the P&O Facebook page they have said that they try and stagger it avoid long queus, or delays but they do not enforce it. Robin:)

We are booked on a cruise departing 1 October, and on the facebook event page, those who have booked through P&O have received notification, but those of us who have booked through an agent have not heard anything about the staggered boarding times. So I am just going to turn up when I turn up and see what happens. (We are aso in a mini suite, so maybe the staggered boarding time doesn't affect us;)).

cheers

There is priority boarding for passengers in suites and mini-suites, Carina. When you go in the door you will see a notice in the middle of the room stating it is the separate queue.

(On days when they don't have staggered boarding, although they say in the brochure that boarding time is 11.00 am, they have started boarding at 10.30 am - on the 4 cruises we have been, anyhow. We get there early because friends take us, and have always been aboard by 10.40 or 10.45 am.)

Thanks collectively for all your replys,it's as I thought P&O's way of possibly controlling arrival times.

We're now leaving Carboulture about 9.30,hopefully on board by 12.

We have a lot of first time cruisers in our group with only P&O booking recieving the notification. We booked through an online agent, still to recieve the email.Maybe the majority of booking are still direct with P&O,it's amazing the amount of people that will only book direct, anyway off to pack.:)

Hi,

If you are on aboard around 12 or a bit later you might like to have lunch in the dining room. It is usually open on embarkation day, but only if you get in by 1.30pm. It is more pleasant to eat there rather than in the hustle and bustle of the buffet.

Might try that option,do prefer the dining room, usually only use buffet on port day mornings.

The priority boarding for passengers in suites and mini-suites get to board first. yes and it is great and The notice in the middle of the room stating it is the separate queue is for people in wheel chairs and disabled people who need an escort's to board the ship.
