Do you have any pics of these stairs? I would love to see them! You are doing a great review, fabulous writing!

I apologize for the delay in the reply to your post Skye02! I couldn't find this video - somehow it didn't make it off the laptop and onto the hard drive!

No pics but here is a video DH shot of the infamous glass steps while poking fun at me!

I asked the driver to take us to the port and we climbed in. After a block or two I realized that he was headed to the AIRPORT and I said that I was going to the cruise port...Lesson learned – say CRUISE port or AIR port and hopefully you won’t ever get the cab driver that Satan spawned!

I've seen the same thing happen at Ft Lauderdale rental car terminal. People board the shuttle for Port Everglades and don't realize they are not heading to an airport terminal. Sometimes panic sets in when they realize they may miss their flight or at the very least have problems hooking up with the rest of their party who are waiting for them at the "real" port.

...the waiters are not as attentive as they once were....

I believe that is a symptom of anytime dining more than anything else. They don't expect to see you again and I also believe some drag out service to avoid doing two sittings a night. If you come in at the right time (for them) and they can drag out your service through the rush period they may not get another guest to serve at that table during the evening.

I am curious. You said there were big waves and it was stormy your day on Roatan but your pictures look like you had amazing weather. Is your camera THAT good? ;) I just wish you could have gotten your snorkeling in.

My sister has told me about that area in GC where you went snorkeling. Is it a place where there are just stone steps down to the water though? That is all that DH and I found and we were worried about me being able to get back out with the bit of waves and slipperiness of the stone steps. (I don't have very good balance.)

there are 2 places there to snorkel....one has the steps down into the water. They have tables/chairs too. Then a few more feet down the way is another place to snorkel. I went to the first place and had no problems. It was a good place to snorkel.

We hurried off the ship (not many others were getting off in that rain, we heard comments later from other passengers talking about watching the fools leave in the rain – LOL) and went to catch a taxi over the hill to Victor Boddens representatives for $2 each! So worth it in the rain!

Quick question on this...

Were the cabs there also offering island tours, etc... ?

Are there plenty of cabs to take people over the hill?

I ask because my grandmother is almost 90 and will not be able to walk up that hill. Neither will my mom most likely because of a medical condition.

Last time we were in Roatan, we were at the old pier and you got off the boat and met everyone right there. I have been SO nervous for them and wondering what they are going to do?!!

If they just want to hire a driver and aren't prebooking, will one of these cabs suffice you think?

Thanks!

I have bad knees and cannot walk far. We(party of 7) had a tour booked with Victor Bodden. What he told us to do was to have part of the party walk over the hill and get with the tour guide in the van. THEN they could come back over the hill and pick me up. But someone with the party HAS to be in the van. So my nephew stayed with me while the rest walked over the hill. They came and got us for the tour. Upon return they were able to drop all of us off at the entrance to the port so no one had to do the hill at the end.

Just looking at the video, my heart started racing! Besides those steps giving me a problem, I can't go down steps with out a hand rail either!! DH & I were at Fort Pulaski National Monument near Savannah, GA. I walked up the steps to the upper level of the fort without a problem. Coming down, I had to sit on my butt and scoot down one step at a time like a little kid. All was good until one of the park ranger came by and asked if I was okay! :o

I have really enjoyed this review....made me laugh and brought back many happy memories of our cruise on the Legend.

We are also casual cruisers, hate dressing up and love anytime dining and a table for 2.

Ya'll sound like you'd be a barrel of fun to cruise with.

thanks for the review and the pictures...I love fish porn!

Approx. how many minutes did you have to walk to get to Eden Rock? Was it to the right or the left of the port? Also how deep would you estimate the water to be out by the reef? Were there any others snorkeling @ that location with you? Were the waters rough in that area?

Also in Rouatan was the ski lift thing still there that takes you to the beach? Can you walk to the beach? Did they have any rentals (kayaks tc.) @ the beach?

One more question where was the salad bar located on lido deck?

Thanks for writing such an entertaining, yet honest review. I agree about the casual dress. While we don't take jeans with us, we do enjoy casual comfort. The first few cruises DH and I did together, we did go all out on the formal nights. It was a fun change. (Our wedding was so casual that I let DH wear his sandals!). Now, we do still dress up for those two evenings, but no more ball gowns! It isn't that we *mind* getting dressed up, we just. Prefer comfort. We talk about taking a cruise sometime with only small carry-on bags with bathing suits and shorts, and doing the buffet all week. Now my DD (20) LIVES for formal nights and would love it every night.

We sailed an 8 day Southern on Legend, and had a room right under the Lido, and 3 cabins from the stairs into the buffet area. It was an extended balcony (our first) and it was perfect. If there was noise, it didn't bother us. Come November, we're spending Thanksgiving on Miracle (Legend's sister ship) and are in a very similar location. This class of ships is easier to navigate, has (or had) the rear adult only pool, and seemed the perfect size.

I'm sad to hear the food is declining, but if that's the case, we'll finally check out the steakhouse and/or make this cruise all casual and enjoy the buffet or maybe more room service.

As others have said, you sound like people we'd enjoy cruising with. Please post your next cruise when you book it. We have some credits for a future cruise we need to book; maybe we'll go with you! :)

Great review. I loved seeing all of the pictures. Also I see you are from a town in NC called Earl. Would that be the Earl that is near Patterson Springs NC?

U's is correct Sir, ain't but one town named Earl in the USA, according Mr google.

But area around Bristol, VA-TN is where we grew up, and claim as home.

Wow! You know where Earl is? Amazing - people who have lived in this area their whole lives don't have a clue where Earl is!

Like DH said, we are transplants here - we are really mountain people at heart! :D We spent a dozen years in Asheville before DH was transferred to Kings Mountain.

Eden Rock is a short walk - maybe 5 - 10 mins depending upon your stride! Get off the tender, walk through the gate and turn right. You can see it from the tender, look right and look for the grey building with the Diver Flag and the Diver Symbol on the building.

I'm not good with measuring distances, DH will tell you the water is really deep! Maybe he will chime in with a distance estimate.

The Salad bar is at the rear of the buffet area, on the right side if you are headed from front to rear. Opposite of the Pizza Station.

The "Magical Flying Chairs" are still in Roatan. Maybe that is the part that makes me think the whole place is so Disney-ish. What a stupid name! :D You can still walk to the beach, see my post with the Mahogany Bay pics - they show both the chair lift and the bridge beneath. We didn't go to the Mahogany Bay Beach so I'm sorry I can't tell you what they do and don't have.

Well it is a very small world. I live just outside of Shelby. I work for Cleveland County as a 911 dispatcher. My hubby is a Paramedic and he works in Patterson Springs some. I knew I couldn't think of another town named Earl in NC.

And I love the picture of the motorcycle. Hubby and I like to ride when we get the chance.
