MS Bike Tour blocking traffic in NYC?

We sail on the Gem on 10/2 which is the day of the MS bike tour - starting and ending at Pier 92/94 according to their website http://bikenyn.nationalmssociety.org/site/PageServer?pagename=BIKE_NYN_NYC_Event_Details

Has anyone encountered this race while trying to get to the pier? I'm trying to figure out our timing. I know it starts early but there are festivities that begin at 1:00 so I'm guessing people will be coming in at all different times. Can't figure out road closures.

thanks.

I'm answering my own post in case next year someone searches for this topic.

AVOID THE WEST SIDE HIGHWAY ROUTE AT ALL COSTS!!

It should take me 40 minutes door to door. After crossing the GWB we had to take Riverside Drive instead of the West Side Highway which ended up taking a total of almost 90 minutes.

If you come the tunnels and head north you're fine but if coming from the north I would suggest taking the East Side (FDR) and then shooting across the island down below the pier.

Not a big deal since we left early but annoying nonetheless!
