New Cuts with Carnival

A little high on ourselves aren't we? I guess you're the type who could care less about us little bitty 3 and 4 time cruisers. Those of us who are smart enough to know if we can't find something, we just ask. You have a lovely "me filled" day.

I'm sick of elitests. But that's just me I guess. I'm normal.

By the way, I had a fantastic, low class cruise with my beautiful wife. We wanted for nothing.

Ummm ok  Why would you let a post get you so riled up? Honestly, sounds like you took it personally when all the poster was doing was comparing her past experiences to the recent. Low class? Where'd you get that from?

I know you think differently, but I was very calm and not riled up at all when I wrote this. I do admit to getting a bit tired of hearing people talking about how special they should be treated since they have taken X number of cruises. But we all have our own thoughts and beliefs and ideas about how life should be lived. That's mine. The low class comment was an implication I felt was included in the Op's original statement about she should have at least been notified since she's platinum. That's all. Thanks for the thought though.

I guess I must also be "a little high on myself" to because having 22 Carnival cruises behind me, I to looked and looked for the menu and when we couldn't find it, called for another one... Thats when they gave us the paper one...

I disagree, at least you took the bull by the horns and actually took the initiative to call and ask for one Mrs. President. :D

No big deal. Actually good for the environment if they probably do away with the fun times also and show that on the TV. Look at all the trees that would be saved. A simple announcement and maybe a placard on the dresser stating that this stuff can be found on the TV

If you really mean that which I'm not sure as more trees are replanted than chopped, you are on a cruise ship which is bad for the enviroment, you want them to use a tv which according to the extremist, electricity is bad for the enviroment. You must have been joking.;)

So taking it to that extreme, all this complaining about it is using all of that electricity which is killing our environment, not to mention all the hot air, helping with global warming :)

The reality for me is I never use room service as I am not in the cabin long enough, and when I am in the cabin, if not having that black binder there gives me room to place one more drink, I am happy.

Wish I had time to post a review but thought I would chime in here. First of all I too couldn't find the book and didn't know the menu was on a single piece of paper buried in others. No big deal but we were on hold for awhile to get someone to answer the phone. Didn't know you could order it on the tv, what a great idea.

Service everywhere was outstanding! Room steward and dining staff unbelievably attentive.

Biggest change I saw was the big plates instead of trays. Actually I loved that.

Entire cruise was awesome and I totally felt like we got our moneys worth!

Just off the Destiny today . . . Wish I had time to post a review but thought I would chime in here. Unfortunately, that technology isn't available on Carnival Destiny.

We're probably in the minority but I also like the change to big plates instead of trays. Trays encourage people to fill the whole thing with food and then waste a lot of it. With the plates people tend to take more reasonable portions, and if they still are hungry they can go get another plate. It cuts down on waste and saves money, which in turn keeps cruise fares down.

A lot of college cafeterias have also done away with trays (although they were great fun to use for sliding down snowy hills, back in the day :) ).

OP: Curious if this has you re-thinking your two future Carnival cruises.

There is no way I will cancel the cruises I have booked , I will just cut back my spending and gambling ..My cruise to Australia is the cruise of a lifetime and we are going......Dennis

The Triumph does not have the interactive TV or a web-cam....Maybe they will put in new TV's and web-cam when it goes into drydock this week...It will be in the Bahamas for 14 days before it is moved to Galveston...It does need work , there is a lot of rust on the aft balconies that you can see from deck 10.....Dennis

How's it going Dennis? The Triumph did have the interactive TV in our cabin where I could check our S&S account, check the menu, order movies, check messages.

We ended up getting a couple of free drinks from Paul and Ane in the casino. :D

We also now know NOT to arrive late to Mutzie's comedy show.

I would encourage everyone to NOT take it out on your wait staff or room stewards in their tips tho. It's not their fault. More than likely they are affected too by having to take on more responsibility. Service slower? Then that probably means they have had to add rooms or tables because of cutbacks, and those guys/girls work hard (at least on the first four I've been on).

And I will say...if it is horrible, then I'll definitley consider paying more and upgrading to a higher class line next time...but I've gone into every Carnival cruise with "Carnival expectations" and that's what I'm doing this time. I'll give you an honest opinion in three weeks.

I will say this much I had great service from my room stewards and my wait staff and I did tip all of them more than the reg gratuties...:)...dennis

I love ordering from room service, and I'd almost rather it WOULD be from the TV or a piece of paper.

I'm no germophobe, but think how many people have handled those books. :D

We have been on 40 cruises and have used room service no more than 5 times....But the Triumph has no interactive TV so no looking at menus or room service or web-cams......Dennis

It's the attitude so many who say "doesn't spoil my cruise" have that drives the cuts further. They know they can get away with it so they do. It's not spoiling my cruise but it is taking from the ambiance of what cruising used to be. If you ignore dirty tables on the Lido, food that isn't hot, no room service and other services books in the cabins, they don't have to provide the level of service they once did. Soon you will be on the Motel 6 at sea, if you aren't already.

i I do like to spend some time in the casino but have cut back when they quit using dealers at the poker tables and started taking high rakes off of us. . .

Jusy curious when this happened? I have only know Carnival to have the Poker Pro tables I never remember seeing dealers at poker tables ever. Since the 2003 boom of poker........when or where did Carnival have poker dealers?

I agree, the rake has always been high!

So either it does...or it doesn't. That narrows it down. :D

Some are only happy when they can find ridiculous things like this to complain about. I'd rather that the changes pointed out here take place than Carnival raising prices. Why should gamblers' free drinks be added to my ticket price? Someone needs to pay for the drinks...why not the person who is drinking them? If my cruise is a nickel cheaper because you have to order room service off a paper menu...I'm ok with that.

It is this kind of ignorance that fuels more service cuts on CCL. Do you really think that the free drinks given to a gambler are being added to your ticket price? Do you really think that?

The casino is a separate entity on the ship. In Las Vegas, they give away lots of drinks and room prices? Often they are under $50 or even free! Gee, how do they do that?

It is called "profit" - look it up! Giving away free drinks makes for gamblers who are more likely to gamble. There is not a single casino in NV that doesn't give away free booze.

CCL's casino rakes in the $ yet they chintz out on drinks. It isn't like you can walk out of the ship and go to a better casino. Even worse, who oversees the legitimacy of the casino? Who checks to make sure that the machines are not too tight? Yes, they are making a lot of $ and if they give out a drink or two, it will not add so much as millionth of a penny cost to any cruise fare. Gambling in a CCL casino is a suckers' bet, best left to those "smart" people with supposedly great credit who carry cash everywhere (they "choose" to pay cash for the S&S account because they "chose" to!).

Just off the Triumph and they have installed 3 tables that have the screens just like the Poker Pro for blackjack....And we were in an inside and had no interactive TV..I think Jetskier was in a balcony ...Dennis

As far as the Casino goes, i really dont care about blackjack so im not worried about the tables really. As far as the Drinks go, i didnt even know they could give you free drinks! Yeah i have heard of it in Vegas, but on the ship i didnt know it was allowed? As far as the room service menus and other paper items not being in the room. Thats there new way of going "green" thats why everything is on the TV now. And maybe thats why some of these ships are going into dry dock this year. So they can update these things? im just guessing. And they are also going to start putting your pictures they take around the ship on a kiosk. So they dont use up so much paper and such. And the dirty tables, we saw plenty of these on the Dream, but a lot of times when somebody gets up and they clean it off, somebody sits back down. So yeah your gonna see dirty dishes. Watch out for the dirty dishes on the floor outside peoples room though! It is what is is. I could understand if your cruise was really crappy. Dont sweat the small stuff. Companies make changes all the time, and Carnival is one of them. Remember its your vacation its time to relax and not sweat the dumb stuff!

By the way, i hope you have a AWESOME time going on that "down under" cruise....Sounds like a blast!
