Smoking on Allure of the Seas

These threads really crack me up.

There are 2 distinct RCI products;

- RC which PERMITS smoking on their balconies.

- X where it is NOT allowed.

- And lets not forget Princess where it will not be allowed in rooms & balconies shortly.

Choose your line.

Next topic.

RCI will be forced to make a change very soon as more & more smokers "flock" to RCI to enjoy their smelly habit's on the balconies. The problem will continue to worsen until their forced to do something about it as the other cruise lines tighten their restrictions.

riclop-- The poster is right he spent hundreds of dollars more to enjoy his balcony and couldn't. It really has nothing to do with the ship and all the things to do.

The OP said she could cancel Allure and go with Celebrity if it was an issue. I was just saying it would be ashame to cx Allure for that issue,

esp when inside non smoking balconies are available.

So if someone 2 or 3 balconies downwind of you yelled over to out it out because it was annoying to them, you would put it out?

I doubt it. That's the exact reason other cruise lines have had to curtail the balcony smoking and RCI will soon to follow.

In New York City, only 14% of the adult population are smokers.

So why should 86% of us be forced to abandon the cruise line we love?

No, we have the right to express our opinions and lobby RCCL to make changes in their policy

YES, we just returned from a wonderful week on the Allure. We were in cabin 7178, balcony. Everything was perfect EXCEPT we had a cigar smoker on one side and a cigarette smoker on the other. Why we paid extra money for the balcony that we could not use is beyond me. This is the ONLY complaint I have! I can put up with a little crowding, but paying hundreds of dollars extra for the privilege of having a balcony that I did not use is VERY frustrating. RCI are you listening??? We did complain to our stateroom attendant about the cigar smoking and it did seem to stop after the 4th day or so but the cigarettes were an issue throughout. Some people close to me are smokers so I understand but YOU all need to understand that when you smoke on your balcony you are affecting ME and that's unfair and inconsiderate.

You knew before you booked smoking is allowed on the balcony.:)

YES I WOULD PUT IT OUT:mad:.

but someone 2 OR 3 balconies down would probably smell a fart more than cigarette smoke:eek:

Yes, absolutely I did, you are correct. However, I never experienced smoking from both cabins on each side at the SAME time. As I stated, I know these are the "rules" but it doesn't make it any less irritating. Aside from the "rules" I ask you a question from one cruiser to another, why does someone else have the "right" to infringe on my balcony use? I would absolutely never do anything to my fellow cruisers that would curtail their enjoyment, so why is ok to to curtail mine?

By the way my DD and DSIL both smoke and they both are very considerate of the rest of the family by smoking outside or away from us. They even said they would not smoke on their balconies on upcoming Oasis because they wouldn't want to bother others on their balconies. The "rules" say they can but they won't because they are CONSIDERATE OF OTHERS!

I do not smoke, but my DH does. He asks for the special ashtray to use on the balcony, and is neat and considerate of others. As a non-smoker, I have very little patience with the complaints vented here.

I doubt that RCI will change their balcony smoking policy, because there is too much revenue to be lost. If they do, then we will find another cruiseline.

If your sensitivity to tobacco is such that your entire balcony experience is ruined, then it makes sense to cruise on a line that is smoke-free. When you choose to sail on an RCI balcony, you will run the risk of having smokers nearby. This is your choice to make.

I would not book a balcony on a cruiseline that allows smoking on the balcony and then complain about it. Celebrity's your best mainstream choice, then Princess after Jan.2012.

I agree with you 100%.I have not smoked in over twenty years. We have been on nine cruises all balcony rooms. And not one of my cruises have been ruined by someone smoking on their balcony.Smokers pay for their balcony's to.:)

OK, as long as we are on this lovely topic , wondering minds want to know if RCI allows smoking in the casino, or is there a special area for smokers within the casino. If it is an all smoking area, I look at it this way....I will lose much less money over the course of my cruise.

For anyone wondering, I am a non-smoker, and I drive a car that gets 50 MPG. ;)

I couldn't agree with you more. I smoke and will only book a balcony stateroom. Carnival lets you smoke in your room and on your balcony. Just think how much tax smokers pay the government on a carton of cigarettes. This is money non-smokers would have to pay if not for us.

Not so...

1. That's precisely what they said about Carnival banning smoking in cabins. That policy takes effect in December

2. That's precisely what they said about Celebrity banning smoking on balconies. Guess what?

Less than 25% of the population smokes.

It makes sense for the cruise lines to play to more than 75% of the population and not the dwindling minority of smokers!

Yogimax, I said "I doubt" RCI will change their policy; that's my opinion.

I also said that if RCI bans smoking on the balcony, we will choose another cruiseline.

In the meantime, smoking IS permitted, so the choice remains.

are you saying 86% of new yorkers want to cruise on a balcony on a rc ship to get away from cigarette smokers.walking the streets of new york, you would inhale more toxic fumes from traffic than any one person having a smoke on the open sea:confused:

We could always cancel and rebook with Celebrity that does not allow smoking in the cabin or on the balcony.

Try going on Princess after Jan 15 & you'll have a smoke free cabin and balcony. The days of paying extra for a balcony & not being able to fully use it will be over.:)
Just because some other lines have smoking restrictions for the cabin and balcony, don't expect that everyone will follow those policies. While smoke doesn't bother me, I recently returned from my first Celebrity cruise and sure enough my next door neighbor was smoking on their balcony. So the risk of having a smoker "ruin" your cruise on a line that is supposedly "smoke free" for balconies does and can happen. It's just another example of the so called policies and/or rules from the cruise lines that are basically never followed and enforced.

Your choices are becoming narrower every day & quickly coming to a close.

There's no risk involved. I would have told them politely the first time to put it out. Second occurrence videoed them smoking & called it in. At a $250 per violation I doubt it it would have gone on to long.

When the rules are changed, we will abide. In the meantime, we will choose accordingly. Those who cannot tolerate smoking may do the same.

Videotaping?? Isn’t this violating someone’s privacy?? I doubt the cruiseline will happily accept your unlawful video tape as evidence since I would imagine this would opened them up to a lawsuit.

No, but since the smokers are in violation it would sure show them a person was smoking if they denied it. I doubt if it would even be necessary to show them, but if push came to shove it would come in handy.

Isn't technology wonderful. :p

Sounds like a plan to me.

RCI and Celebrity are very very different. I still cannot get why the ships with the bells and whistles to appeal to children is the line that allows smoking on the balcony. I would think that the line that all of the things to appeal to children, and active people - - - oh well.

OP - When we booked Allure last March on a cruise for next February, the loyalty ambassador told us that the left side balconies were non-smoking. I'm not sure if this is true since I haven't seen anything about it on Cruise Critics but we booked on the right side just to be safe - I'm a smoker.
