Just booked the Intercontinental for a 2 night precruise stay in January. Got a great deal. Can you tell me anything about this hotel? thanks kim

Its one of the nicest hotels in PR. It has a casino, live music and restaurants. Its very expensive to eat or drink there. I think a small coke was $5 or 6 bucks. Im sure you will enjoy it.

Thanks Daytoncruiser, I guess I know where I will spend all the money I saved on the room:rolleyes: I think I have read that you can buy your own pop, etc so maybe I will have to look into going to the store when we get down there to try and save? Thank you for the info.:)

There is a strip mall across the street that has a store with pop, snack, beer and wine.

Bumping up the thread for any more hotel ideas in San Juan. Cruising Empress of the Seas Jan. 2nd.

Not sure about staying pre or post cruise. Having trouble finding reasonable airfare from MPLS/St. Paul that doesn't fly around the US before landing in San Juan.

We have stayed at the Marriott Stellaris, Wyndham Condado Plaza and Embassy Suites. Eah has an advantage and this time we are again staying at Embassy Suites. The rooms are ok, but they have a manager's cocktail reception for a couple of hours and a cooked to order breakfast in the morning. If you don't want to go anyplace other than the hotel for dinner, there is an Outback Restaurant at the hotel.

We are sailing on the AOS Jan/06 and would like a hotel recommendation for our pre-cruise stay.

We are considering the Intercontinental.....

The Intercontinental is next door to the ocean-front El San Juan Wyndam and Ritz Carlton, which were our favorites of all the hotels we have tried in San Juan. Ritz Carlton had exceptional service and food. It also had a nice casino with live Spanish music inside the casino. El San Juan Wyndam, which also had a casino and a nice large lobby, great for people watching. If you stay at the Intercontinental, you can easily walk to these 2 hotels.

Enjoy,

Pam

FYI: Just talked to a friend who originally came from San Juan. She stays at the Intercontinental when visiting SJ and indicates that it is actually just as nice as the Wyndham next door, has excellent services and amenities, and also has a 24 hour casino!

Thanks for the info Medit, I appreciate it.

The Intercontinental is NOT cheap - but I am willing to pay to ensure a clean room and good service  Hopefully I have made the right choice!

We have stayed at 4 different hotels in Puerto Rico. The Condado (Wyndham) was not worth the money. They needed a big redo & maybe they got it. We stayed there in Spring 02. Last summer we stayed at the Westin Rio Mar. A little further out, but a truly beautiful resort and we paid 80/night per room thru Sky Auction. We stayed at the Marriott Courtyard after that cruise for 1 night. Not great (service was horrible), but hotel was ok (free on points). Last fall we stayed at Embassy Suites. Wish we had stayed here with the kids. Lots of room, clean, breakfast, grocerystore to walk to; nice pool. Got this on priceline for $130. Hope this helps.

  • 2 weeks later...

Any info on the Hampton Inn and Suites? I can stay there using points for my pre-cruise stay. I would like to stay at Embassy suites but there are no rooms available for that night. I know there was one poster above that didn't have a problem with it. Any others?

We are staying at the Embassy Suites pre cruise. I figured the breakfast and cocktail reception was a plus. We received a great government rate. Michelle

Mishelle, we're going on the Destiny in November too and staying at the Embassy Suites. We're on the Nov 13-20 cruise. Which one are you on?

Calliecat - The room at the Haptom Inn and Suites was quite spacious and very clean. The bedroom has a door and is separate from the living room/bathroom. We were 4, so it gave us some privacy. The pool was small but nice with an outside bar. The breakfast buffet was served in the lobby - it was okay - eggs, bagels, ham, toast, muffins & danish & fruit. Our room wasn't ready when we got there, but they locked the bags in an unused conference room and off we went to El Morro. The service at the desk was okay/mediocre. If you're looking for a wow experience, this wouldn't be it. But it was adequate and clean - fine for what we were looking for. The beach would be a couple of blocks down and across. There is a public access between the Wyndham and the Intercontinental.

Thanks for the info. I went ahead and booked using my points. I will ask for an upgrade to a suite when I get there (I'm willing to pay the difference) and since we'll only be there one night, I think it will be fine (and free).
